First priority when it comes to supporting a fighter is the style they use. Second is whether they're American or not. Third is the act they put on in front of the camera.

Hopkins vs Trinidad and Mayweather vs Hatton were the ****. Hopkins made it "us" vs "them" the moment he threw the rican flag onto the ground.

 

I would still do it, even if the title was something else. What country is Floyd fighting out of and a citizen of? Which colors did he flag during the Olympics?

 

I think my objection to that stems less from me being a mix of both and more with Floyd already trying to pull the "I'm an American citizen and want the (US) fans to stand by me like an American soldier" angle in his lead up to the Marquez fight.

 

Who cares? Floyd put in the work and flagged the red, white, and blue during the '96 Olympics. Mexicans support their prize fighters, filipinos support their prize fighters, Romanians support their prize fighters, Brits support their own, etc.

It's cool when any other nationality does it, but Americans can't? **** that trash. We have the richest history in the sport right behind Brits and produced the best prizefighters.

 

I didn't say Americans can't support their own, but Floyd doesn't deserve the same support an American goddamn Soldier does just because he's an American citizen. He was working the "Support me just because i'm an American" angle. Soldiers don't act perfect, but when they've been actively engaged in a war for the past 9 years, they definitely deserve support more than Floyd "Flash money while most americans are struggling to pay their goddamn mortgages" Mayweather.
