I always feel sad when I see a journeyman taking a horrible beating from an up and coming pro.

Ring fatalities notwithstanding, nothing's as sad to me as that Billy Collins-Luis Resto thing.

To be truthful, when we are made to think about it, there seem to be a lot of things to be sad about the sport we love and follow.

All boxing related deaths are sad when we think about the life (all of them more or less young) that was snuffed out and the impact that it has on their families. Paret, Moore, Duk Koo Kim (do I recall the name right?) and many others.

The after effects - direct or otherwise - on many former boxers are a really sad thing to behold. Muhammad Ali, Jerry Quarry, Mike Watson, etc.

The unfair tactics adopted by some boxers which causes irreparable damage to their "foes". Luis Resto on poor Billy Collins is the most poignant example.

I somtimes wonder why we follow boxing at all. Can anyone here explain?

Holmes - Ali definitely for a purely boxing perspective. Followed by,ironically,Tyson - Holmes. Others that come to mind are Marciano - Louis and Robinson's last few fights. From a broader view, the fatalities after or during fights.

Here we go..............Here we go........!!!!! As soon as Ali-Foreman comes up,someone has to drag the loose ropes theory outa their ass ! (Apologies and thanks to Eddie Murphy !) Seriously though,I doubt whether the ropes would have made any signifigant difference to the result. As for the POISONING ! I've always found that accusation surreal. Foreman looked as strong as he did against Frazier,Roman and Norton in the early rounds in Zaire. That does n't occur if you've been poisoned. You're obviously as fond of George as I am of Muhammad, but even our heroes have to lose sometime. How do you reach the conclusion that George was robbed against Jimmy Young ? I do agree with you, however, that Foreman deserved the nod in the Briggs fight.
