way overrated guys come on he got schooled by hopkins throwing slaps all night long not landing hardly anything on him. kesler got schooled and bearly beat froch so hes out and dont even bring up jones he is so shot its not even funny. the guy was a good slapper for sure but he was a terrible prize fighter to watch fight.
He was a good fighter, but not "amazing." Name his signature win. Or his "coming out" moment. Hell, name one "name" fighter on his resume who wasn't 40+ when he fought him. There's nothing wrong with giving the guy's career a "B." It's above average and exactly what he deserves.
Question: How many fighters cover up on the ropes while being "slapped"? I would assume none since it's just a slap afterall and opponents would open up full force. Yet I can point to EVERY Calzaghe opponent covering up when Joe opened up, how does that work? Also if you had a clue you'd know Joe did indeed have power for many years but adapted his style due to numerous hand injuries. Your ignorance is typical **** I see spouted here in every Calzaghe thread.
His signature win is probably Kessler. I agree with what you said though. He wasn't "amazing" and should've beat Reid in a very, very convincing one-sided fashion. Unfulfilled potential or not his career may have ended the best way it could have.
I enjoyed watching him fight and some of you need to watch some of his early fights before he messed his hands up he had some pop in his punches. He is the best Super Middleweight in History. I blame Warren for him not getting any big fights earlier in his career.
I try to but don't know where to start. I liked his fight with Eubank(yes I'm even a Eubank fan) but everytime I try to see his other early fights I can't watch them all the way through for some reason. He had power though and could go to the body quite well. Also, I admit I do joke around about him "slapping" sometimes but tbh if he slapped so much as people said wouldn't his opponents walk through them? "Slapping" or not those punches he did land did enough for his opponents to gain his respect.
Kessler -- good win, but not exciting in the least. Lacy -- severe ass whipping. probably his best overall fight. Too bad Lacy was a B- fighter. Reid -- seriously? Both Abraham and Froch will have superior bodies of work post Super Six.
He was better than good, Kessler is good, Froch is good, Calzaghe is a level above that. Amazing might be a little strong but very good is accurate.
