I've been a Bjork fan for about 3-4 years, WhataRock.

I thought Duran/Leonard I was about as masterful a clinic on in-fighting as I've ever seen. If the clinching were just that, it wouldn't have been so, but Duran's relentless work inside the clinch was nothing short of awe-inspiring, in my opinion.

Tin Ribs, do you believe that the draw is arguable in the Chavez fight? If not, isn't it a robbery by definition?

It was clearly a robbery. Chavez won 4 rounds at best.

Does anyone think Manuel Ortiz deserves a mention here?

Most consider him a bona fide ATG, but his resume looks bereft of big names to me. Could be due more to my ignorance than anything else though....

Then you agree with the general consensus. I just didn't see it.

I like Joe Frazier's win column.

    Muhammad Ali
    Jerry Quarry x2
    Jimmy Ellis x2
    Oscar Bonavena x2
    Buster Mathis
    Bob Foster
    Joe Bugner

Considering that I believe Quarry would make serious noise in today's division, as would Ellis and Bonavena, and that his victory over Ali is one of the best wins of all time. Not too shabby.

He fought quite a few top bantamweights of the era, and some featherweights as well. I think his record is solid by bantamweight standards, the names are rather obscure though and it's unclear how good these men were without film.

To come up with some kind of a list for the moment:

    Lou Salica
    Tony Oliveira
    David Young
    Little Pancho
    Little Dado
    Lauro Salas
    Harold Dade
    Carlos Chavez
    Benny Goldberg
    Larry Bolvin
    Luis Castillo
    Richie Lemos
    Jackie Jurich
    Rush Dalma
    Horace Mann
    Theo Medina

A lot of rated fighters and title challengers.

If you scored the Chavez fight for Pea (as I did) and the Oscar fight for Pea (as I did), then his resume is very impressive indeed by contemporary standards. Wins over Chavez, De La Hoya (peak), Nelson, McGirt (when Buddy was top 3 p4p), Vasquez, Hurtado, Rivera, Pineda, Paez, Ramirez, Haugen, Mayweather, Williams...

For his era, I think it is excellent.

    Good points.

Would that account for a top 15 placing in your opinion?

Pryor-Arguello is a more epic/exciting fight than Duran-Leonard 1, but for me Duran-Leonard 1 is the absolute pinnacle of televised boxing, simply because it is THE best example of a fight where two of history's true elite were in their primes and both produced the goods, big time. Some utterly incredible action in there, insanely high-level stuff.
