Are there any ones you remember where one fighter was taking a huge beating but wouldn't quit, and needed the corner to intervene? Lopez-Penalosa immediately springs to mind. Fighting above his natural weight, at 36 years of age, against a 25 year-old KO artist who is gigantic for the weight and in his hometown. Took 60-70 power shots a round for nine rounds straight before Roach had to step in as Penalosa was taking a life-altering beating, and still wanted to continue. Jesus, Penalosa is ****ing invincible.
Ali wanted to continue against Holmes, and Bundini was representing his wishes in protesting to Dundee. But the following day, Muhammad admitted that Angelo made the right call. While Ali was dreadful through most of the match, what little he did have clearly dropped off in round ten. Muhammad attempted exactly three light jabs and one slow, tentative right hand in that final round, a dramatic loss of effort from the previous nine stanzas.
Penalosa is a ****ing warrior. Juan Manuel Lopez really dwarfed him, and yet, he still hung in there in the face of a horrible beating. A credit to him, and Roach did the right thing.

Agreed. That guy's chin is unbelievable. Nearly any other fighter out there would have been stopped by those punches. Major respect for Penalosa.
Futch saved Frazier in Manila. The 14th was really, really bad, and Joe clearly couldn't defend himself anymore. But like the animal he is, he'd have stood there and took it just to say he was man enough. Futch had to intervene. Penalosa fought back against Lopez, too! Many times, in such a mismatch, a fighter, especially one like Penalosa, will shut down offensively and try to survive. Penalosa took a horrible pounding, but all the while threw back and clipped JML with a couple scorchers to remember him by. Gatti-Mayweather deserves a shout. Arturo would have just stood there taking that horrible pounding till Mayweather put him away brutally, and that result was coming. Buddy McGirt saved him a much worse headache.
dave boy green was retired by his manager in his last fight.green muttered "you *******" to his manager but andy smith had green's best interests at heart. green had a lot of short comings but never lacked heart.
