Nonito Donaire Jr. in danger of going down in history as a 'One Hit Wonder'?

The once promising young fighter is advancing in age rapidly, yet his career appears to be at a standstill. At this point 'The Filipino Flash' is in danger of going down as a flash in the pan as he's taken on mediocre opponent after mediocre opponent which has done little to solidify his resume in the ring as one of the sport's elite. If you compare apples and oranges, Vic Darchinyan has had a much tougher set of opponents compared to him since they fought.

The hype around Donaire then was his 'Knockout of the Year' performance against Darchinyan and the bright future he had ahead of him. The hype about him now is still the 'Knockout of the Year' performance against Darchinyan and the not as significant knockouts of a list of lower tier fighters. His allure surrounds his potential- the "coulda', woulda', shoulda'" which is why he is perched high at some Pound for Pound rankings like RIng Magazine's where he sits at number 4. But does he really deserve to be ranked as high?

 

I think you're a few fights too late on this thread. He's fighting Sidorenko next, who is a solid, solid fighter.

 

IMHO, the man does not deserve to be near the top 10.

He is riding the same train of a fight that happened 3 years ago.

If the fight with Montiel doesn't happen Donaire might as well retire as not many will care about this dude anymore.

Well he beat Raul Martinez soundly and people forget that. Martinez is an excellent fighter. Plus fighting Sidorenko. Well, obviously he is no one-hit wonder. That's nonsense.

 

Mthlane is a pretty good fighter too.

He actually won the flyweight title that Donaire vacated.

 

Martinez was a very good prospect and wasnt measured at the world class level at all and still his only world class opponent knocked him out in 4 rounds.

I never said that and that really doesnt matter. Martinez has been in with one top 15 opponent and was TKO by him in only 4 rounds. Until he proves himself at the world level you cant claim him to be an excellent fighter. Excellent prospect yes, excellent fighter? Child please.......

 

When right before the fight with Donaire, Martinez said that if he could take his shots then he would be ok was a good indication that Martinez was getting KTFO.

 

You can't call someone with Donaire's really ****ing obvious skill set a one hit wonder.

He better do what he has to do soon. Guys in the small men divisions have a shorter shelf life.

I see what the ts is trying to say and I agree.

 

Donaire is the truth, IMO. I think the bantamweight tourney is a good opportunity. But, he turned that down. Even if the money is short, by his (or Arum's) standards he could use the exposure.
