Lost a 12 round UD in to Japanese Ryol Li Lee in Tokyo. Not sure if anyone knows how it went down but its a big shock. I think Poon had just signed with Goldenboy.
Signed with Goldenboy? That's interesting! Is it eve 1% possible that he lost on purpose to make him less avoided by the likes of Cab/Molitor etc! I know its doubtful but just wonder if a belt holder has ever done that!
Thats a bit of a stretch, but i see where your coming from. To be honest Dunne was out boxing him pretty comfortably for the first two rounds, its just that Dunne has a jaw that makes Amir Khans look like Iron. I reckon a decent boxer with a good chin could genuinely beat him. i know nothing of the guy who beat him, but would be interested to see him in action. I bet he's a rangy/slick type of boxer...
Rafael's remark: Major upset here as Japan's Lee, 28, a heretofore virtual unknown with only one notable win on his record (a split decision against countryman Hiroyuki Enoki in July 2009) outboxed Thailand's well-regarded Kratingdaenggym, 29, to claim a 122-pound belt. Kratingdaenggym was making his fourth defense and riding a 17-fight winning streak since a decision loss to then-bantamweight titlist Wladimir Sidorenko in 2006. Lee won favor with the judges with his movement and counterpunching over Kratingdaenggym's voluminous, but generally ineffective, punch output. Lee opened a cut over Kratingdaenggym's left eye in the fifth round. Lee claimed Kratingdaenggym's WBA "regular" title as Celestino Caballero is the alphabet organization's so-called "super" titleholder. However, Caballero is now at featherweight and will fight his second consecutive fight in the division in November. So that title figures to be abandoned.
:yep I was giving live updates in the Choi thread when the fight was happening. As I've said a couple of times already, without a doubt a candidate for upset of the year.
I'd wait til we see it before making a judgement, knowing the Japs. To be fair they gave Wonjongkam the verdict recently but I wouldn't put my trust in them.
I haven't seen the fight yet (will hopefully watch it in the next couple of days), but the guy I was following on Twitter who was posting about the fight had Poon up 39-37 after 4 rounds, level after about 8 rounds and Lee just nicking it in the end.
