Nonito Donaire Jr. in danger of going down in history as a 'One Hit Wonder'?

Who? Sounds like a familiar name...Wasn't he that guy that beat Darchinyan that one time before Darchinyan unified the super flyweight division? ...Huh. Can't remember. :huh

 

turning down the bantamweight tourney was not a good decision, he and his promoters were very shortsighted and unless he rematches Darch or gets the fight with Montiel, he is in danger of become a one hit wonder. Too many great fighters at or near his division for him to be continually fighting second tier opponents or contenders. My opinion.

Media is giving him celeb status prematurely. TOo many distracting TV appearances in the Philippines has taken the drive out of him.

I know people blame arum and all other handlers around Donaire but donaire needs to take care of himself. he should let go of the bull**** spotlight and start calling out fighters like its his god-given right.

He needs to go back to the basics, go back to his mind-set before the darchi-KO. This would mean allowing terms to go the way of your target opponents. IF Darch wants more money, give it to him. If Montiel wants some concessions too, give it to him. It will all benefit his long-term status anyway.

 

No he'll eventually fight the likes of Montiel and as dangerous as Montiel is, I still think Nonito might be too good. He might have to move up or down in weight to make the big $$$ and fight anyone significant.

 

Nonito Donaire is 27 years old.

When Juan Manuel Marquez was 27 his most notable fight was a loss to Freddie Norwood. Now he's considered one of the greats of his era.

When Celestino Caballero was 27 his most notable win was bum Giovanni Andrade and he had lost both times he had stepped up. Now he is extermely well respected.

When Vic Darchinyan was 27 he was still fighting B and C level fighters in Australia. Now most people love him.

Hell Juan Manuel Lopez is 27 and his competition hasn't been all that much better than Donaire's, yet he receives none of the criticism that Donaire gets.

Donaire probably has at least ten years to fight great fighters. He has taken almost no punishment thus far so it's not all that unreasonable to think that, with continued success, he could fight well into his late 30s. He is obviously a special talent and by all accounts is interested in fighting top competition, and has gotten frustrated with fighting guys who are a tier below...but he has done the same think that guys like Cotto and Lopez have done, which is to concede to the decisions of Top Rank and bide his time. And now with Sidorenko, and then presumably Montiel, he is getting those top level fights. Do any of you see him avoiding them? Seems to me like he is excited for them.

Time is not running short for Donaire, he probably has at least 20 fights left in his career barring any major setbacks. It is extremely shortsighted to think that because he has not fought the very best in his last five fights that he never will.

Sidorenko isn't the worst opponent he could face next. But bantamweight is now the moat competitive, high quality division in boxing atm so he really should step up in the next year or 2. The montiel fight would be quality, I'd like to see him fight Moreno as well. A very underated fighter who would cause anyone problems

 

I dont give a **** about Non Entity until he fights any of the top fighters in what is probably the best division in boxing at the moment i advice y'all to do the same.

 

Donaire is a good fighter damn good to be exact but his career has been wasted away. The kid has the goods to go down as a possible ATG in the lower weights. Hopefully he can start landing better fights next year.

 

He is a non-entity.
