from what i have heard and read in various places recently HBO believes amir khan is gonna be the next superstar. i read somewhere (can't remember where) that they have put millions of dollars into advertising him. personally i think its a clever move because he already has a large following in the UK and starting to get known in the US.

i can understand what your saying, we had Ali before and alot more, but post 9/11 Any way thats beside the point, regardless if khan gets knocked out once or twice more in his career, Khan will still be a huge superstar regardless. Any person can be with the right marketing. Khans got a olympic silver medal behind him and has fast paced fights so, all they are doing is trying to maintain interest and excitement in boxing
If Khan can unify 140 and then fight a decent 147 pound champion without getting knocked out, he can achieve a significant amount of super-stardom. The question is, will the chances of him getting knocked out due to his lack of punch resistance ever diminish? Because if not, then it's only a matter of time. Just imagine him vs. Berto after he moves up from 140. If it happens too soon he'll be considered an exposed hype job, and down the line a KO loss is just a KO loss if he can go long enough without giving a bambi impression.
Good skills, good fighter to watch, big following in the UK, big following in the Muslim world, Americans wanting to see him put on his ass, a trainer like Roach seeing potential that he's actually willing to put in time and effort, gee what could HBO be thinking??
But yes, I do think HBO believe in his potential, otherwise they wouldn't be investing in him. He's touted by many to be amongst the top superstars of the sport in the next 5 years, why wouldn't they invest in him.
Definitely. I think if Khan was an American-born Muslim, he'd be easier to market. But his accent and boring personality currently makes it that little bit harder to reach the wider American public. But he'll definately be popular amongst the Middle-Eastern and Indian sub-continent people.
