I'd take Moore most of the time because he is more varied. He could get hurt and dropped here but i doubt he'll get sparko'd, so if he's catching shots or counters he'll likely adapt. Could go either way because of Archie's not being invinvcible, but i'll firmly take Moore to win it.

Moore stopped Bivins..Toney wouldn't be much of a stretch.

A prime Archie Moore starches James Toney..Archie beat MANY opponents who
would have whipped Toney, such as Jimmy Bivens, Curtis Sheppard,Harold johnson,
Joey Maxim etc...Moore' competition was so superior to Toney's foes...

Yep, I'd go with Moore to edge this because of his better conditioning with their close skill level. But he isn't having an easy time with Toney and he isn't stopping him

moore for me i dont think it is to much of a loony statement to suggest that more wins by stoppage but for me it would be no easy nights work

Moore by clear UD, possibly late stoppage. He just has more variaty and is better than Toney at what Toney is best. Just a different class of a fighter. Toney is one of the best ever against come forward fighters but outside that he wasn´t that good.

About Toney... at MW almost all of his wins and draws vs. decent fighters were close or even questionable. With that said, there is no shame in having a close fight with Reggie Johnson or Mike McCallum x2.

He drew with Sanderline Williams over 10 rounds in their first fight, he clearly beat him in the rematch W10.

He beat Merqi Sosa WSD12. No rematch.

He was outboxed by Michael Nunn for 10+ rounds but was able to stop Nunn in the 11th. No rematch.

He beat Reggie Johnson WSD12. Toney cut and down in this fight. No rematch.

He drew with Mike McCallum over 12 rounds. Toney won the rematch, WMD12. Toney won their 3rd fight as well (W12, close fight), which was at CW.

He beat David Tiberi WSD12. No rematch, Tiberi retired soon after.

Toney sure didn't live up to the "Lights Out" nickname.

At SMW he had some clear win but the level of opposition wasn't always as high. He beat-

Doug DeWitt KO6, Iran Barkley KO9, Tony Thornton W12, Tim Littles KO4, and Charles Williams KO12.

The wins over Barkley and Williams look good on paper but they were both far from their best in these fights.

Barkely had not made 168 for over a year and was even struggling to make 175 at that point... let alone 168. Barkley never fought at 168 again and actually fought at HW in his next fight. He went just 6-4 in his next 10 fights getting stopped twice (LKOby6 Adolpho Washington and LKOby9 Henry Maske).

Williams came down from 175 to fight Toney. Williams had been fighting as a LHW for over 15 years. Williams went just 1-1-1 (1) after the Toney fight and took major punishment in the draw and loss (both to Merqui Sosa). The win was over a fighter who was 3-3-1. My point? Williams had little left by the time he faced Toney.

Next up was the one-sided loss to Roy Jones Jr.

I think Toney's best weight was CW to be honest.
