Hagler never lifted a weight in his life, but was built and had power.

So you think Mayweather hits hard? Doing weights doesn't mean you can punch harder. You must be ******ed. Did Joe Louis pump weights every day? No.

then post a link. I've made the more liekly statement, that he did use weights.

your statement is based on a fanboy love and general lack of common sense so prove it.

Find it yourself. Ring Magazine had an article about Marvin's training before his fight with Hearns. Start there.

press workouts and subsequent interviews to that effect rarely actually show what the fighter does.

example, Ali never actually shadowboxed under water.

what sort of football are you talking about, if you mean soccer why would they use weights its a non contact sport.

If you mean aussie rules AFL, real football with contact and no arnour protection. Then you are wrong because EVERY football club lifts weights for strength and explosivness.

I think weights and body weight training are both beneficial. I think they go hand in hand together. You just need to know how to train the weights for you specific sport.

I think body weight is more for endurance then strength for example, tabata squats is a good endurance exercise. You will not reach your maximum strength only using body weight exercises. And when i talk about training weights i don't mean hundreds of bicep curls, that would be pointless. I don't even do isolated movements with weights. I would do kettle bell swings, weighted chin ups, weighted lunges with overhead press, weighted get ups, weighted push ups. Most of these movements can be done as body weight training but if you add weight you will definately become stronger and more explosive. I also like to do my weight training as a circuit.

you need to train so you have FUNCTIONAL MUSCLE, not to be a bodybuilder. Different training all together, yet they both lift weights.

of-course big guys like joe louis and mike tyson are going to punch hard, they are heavy weight, most heavy weights punch hard. But for a middle weight like myself, weights can definately help improve my punching power.

There comes a time when your technique is nearly perfect and more technique training isnt going to help you punch harder. This is the stage when explosive training with weights specific for punching will help you punch harder.

and its not just about punching harder, how about building full body strength so you can man handle you opponent around the ring. There i more benifits to lifting weights then just punching harder.

Like someone else said, weights will not teach you technique or skill
