and it wont matter much beating a 38 year old undeserving briggs, but yeah, better than sitting on his ass like lewis did hoarding the belts toward the end

Ok mate so maybe I'll fight Muhamed Ali and if I win that makes me an ATG. Shannon Briggs is shot to bits anyway. What we are simply saying is you can not claim Vitali is a great fighter because he gave a past it great a tough fight. Don't get me wrong VK is a really good fighter but that fight can not be used as an example to say how good he is. Forgot to mention guys like Cooper, Moorer, Tucker, Golota and Ruddock before as well. Do you really think that the Klitschko brothers would dominate in that division in the 90's? Don't get me wrong they would not lose all of those fights but there were guys who were better than them.

He was in way better shape than Vitali in the last 2 rounds.

Vitali barely threw a shot in the last round. He just kept grabbing Lewis every time he went for the stoppage.

Man, this is plain fantasy. Have you watched the bout?

Penultimate round, Vitali was finished. Barely threw a shot, took numerous bombs. End of the round, he was walking back the wrong way to the corner, for a few steps man!?

Last round, I can't even see a meaningful shot he threw. He was hanging on for dear life.

He was finished. Whether he was stopped on cuts, or just pulled out as he was taking a beating

This is one of these real mythical fights.

I've seen it maybe 10 times, and have just watched it again.

Vitali had 3 very strong rounds, where he was on top. But at the same time, Lewis was landing some devastating bombs. Maybe 2-3 a round.

Penultimate round, Vitali was really hurting, had really slowed down, and was just throwing the occasional big shot, looking for the KO. Lewis's big shots had took it out of him. End of the round, seriously, he's staggering, mouth open, walking the wrong way back to the corner.

Last round, just watch it. Vitali doesn't throw a single shot really. He's hanging on for dear life. Lewis is coming after him, throwing bombs, and Vitali is just grabbing him and tying him up every time he tries to hit him.

Lewis was visibly overweight (Lennox looked like a greek god at his peak. Hardly any fat or bulk at all), and old.

But he still had enough HOF power and accuracy to slow Vitali right down, and stop him.

Vitali had a few good rounds, but was really hurt by Lewis's HOF power, and slowed down terribly.

I just can't see how he wouldn't have been knocked out if his corner let him continue. He had nothing left physically.

Then take into account Vitali was probably better then than he was now. Then take into account that Vitali is a better fighter than Wlad even now, and you start to get a picture of why guys like Haye and Adamek can beat up a lot of the top heavyweight contenders.

Heck, Roy Jones could. I'd say if Roy Jones stayed at heavyweight 2003-2005 he could have probably defended his belt a few times.

    It's so obvious isn't it?

Vitali wasn't even throwing shots any more by the last round. He was grabbing Lewis, and hanging on for dear life

By the way, another good example may be Shannon Briggs vs. Vitali.

Lewis completely humiliated Briggs, when he was 32 years of age, and probably at his peak (well coming off the biggest win of his career). It was like he was facing a club fighter.

Knocked him over 4 times in the first 4 rounds, then stopped him in the 5th.

Briggs is 38 now, and a lesser fighter than then. If Vitali takes him say 11 rounds and then knocks him out, you'll see the level he actually is

At the same time, you have to remember, that even if he was 38, Lennox Lewis will probably go down as one of the greatest heavyweights ever.

Guys like George Foreman didn't even think he'd have the fight to beat Lennox Lewis at his peak.

His height, natural weight, obscene reach (Lewis had a much bigger reach than both Klitschko brothers - 84 inches. Vitali's is 80. As is Wlad's), speed, power, skills.

You have to remember Lennox had 32 KOs in 41 fights. Not many people went the distance with him

Wladimir is 34 and arguably yet still to reach his peak. 38 is only 4 year away for him.

When was lewis' peak? Would it be when he beat and old holyfield - much liker you are lambasting Vitali for right here!??!

    Beating a washed up Tyson?

Perhaps it was dismantling the godlike Bruno? Was that his peak?

Or maybe getting his ass handed to him by Rahman?

Yeah I get ya thread starter. A sub 38 year old prime lewis really showed us what he could do!
