To be fair, they are both the top Middleweights. It's only right that they decide who the best Middleweight is, but yeah I agree, catchweights need to stop.

lame. pwill already fought at 160. and martinez was a 154 guy for so long. just set it at 160 and you know what atleast one of them, probably both of them would come in at under 160 anyways. but the fact that it was at the correct weight limit alone would make it more respectable.

I mean its cool for P will to face inactive Winky at 160 but he wont fight martinez there who is really just a 154 fighter anyways?

Ordinarily I object to catchweights for title fights. In this particular instance I think it's okay. Neither guy is a real middleweight, and I do not think the 3 pounds will really hurt, or help, either fighter.

Both could be trying to stay in position to come down a weight class comfortably and fight Manny/Floyd when they're available...for the ******s that couldn't bring themselves to think about that one...

Agreed. The catchweight will not change the fight at all.

    bull**** is what it is.

why put a 160 title on the line if you cant weigh 160?

the fight itself wont be affected as many point out, same with pac an margo.

so in a way that annoys me even more because it is a pointless catchweght that benefts noone.

well we did have oscar de la hoya demanding the reigning mw champ come down to 158 to fight him. didnt do him any good obviously despite that not looking like the hardest body shot ever.

williams' camp probably saw how good martinez looked in his last fight. and when i say good i mean how he carried the weight as well as how he fought. he came into the pavlik fight at 168ish i think. williams has a hard time getting up to the mw limit. so this should be no surprise.

57 is fine. Neither fighter is a natural MW so I don't expect either guy to be negatively affected by the weight. Another war looms and I can hardly wait.

It's not as bad as Pacquiao's two catchweight fights because in that instance, he made Cotto come down in weight and now the same with Margarito. In this instance, neither is a proper MW and neither is going to be hindered by and struggle with the limit.

But I really don't see the point. Just do it at the 160 limit. Neither guy is likely to weigh in at 160 anyway, they could both come in at 157 even if the limit is 160 and it doesn't give anybody an excuse to complain. Utterly pointless.

as much of a fan that i'm not of catchweights...and this is not in defense of williams...

but wasnt martinez willing to come down to 155-156 for a fight w/ angulo...that angulo turned down dispite being offered 750k? just saying...
