Arguello very definitely improved after this fight, both as a fighter and physically.

Physically he was never better than at 126 imo.

He was a better fighter at 130 regardless imo. He had murderous power there and his stamina was excellent. Granted he didn't quite enjoy the height and reach advantages P4P he did at 126 but i believe he lost no power and the added meat on the bone did him good. H'es probably the best 130 i have ever witnessed, but he's a fair ways away at 126.

130 has a lot less depth than 126 though.

I wouldn't disagree with anyone saying he was better at 130.I used to think that myself, however i've grown to feel he was just as effective at 126 regardless of any technical improvements he made.compare the Marcel bout to Castillo, Chacon to Leonel Henandez etc.

Arguello was still at his peak physical strength at 135 when he was beating Jim Watt and Ray Mancini... At 135, Arguello didn't look totally gaunt or dehydrated...

But yes, at 130 is probably his peak years as a champion cuz he was in his mid to late 20s.....

STILL! in 1982 and at 138 1/2 pounds, Arguello was physically fit to kick ass at 140 pounds, but Aaron Pryor was just too much there... Arguello would've beaten anybody else there on that Nov. night down in Florida....

I'd say he hit his prime at 126lbs, and kept it up at 130lbs.

    I agree.

I really love this fight. Olivares puts in a great display of his boxing skills in this one, and really does well. Although I never felt it was as one-sided as people make it out to be. Arguello was very competitive in it and was forcing a high pace.

Olivares has some really good rounds just before the finish but he has to take a lot of punishment in it, that leads to the KO.

Basically, I think the saying: 'At what cost?' Sums up this fight well as Olivares success meant he had to take some punishment from Arguello and it eventually mounted up.

Both guys put on a great fight.

Im actually really coming around the lora's thinking on this...I think though Alexis improved on a lot of little things when he moved up to 130, which all combined together to give me the impression that he had certainly developed as a fighter..His physical advantages at 126 were huge and I still think he had very impressive skillset for the fighter he was.

I think people tend to overplay how much he improved moving up mainly because he went on such a devastating win streak..But IMO Olivares and Marcel are miles better than anyone he fought at 130 or 135, and thats a lot of the reason why he appeared to be a lot better at 130.

He is an absolute H2H beast at 126 no doubt in my mind.
