How easy is it place Louis above Ali???

    I personally have always had Louis above Ali, but a lot has had this to do with my dislike for Ali if I'm honest, I'm not a fan, I realised his greatness but Joe always seemed to fit my ideal of a 'great' HW champ.

    Am I deluded or blinded by hatred? is it an easy thing to rate Louis above Ali in this day and age?

    I'll be honest and say I am finding it harder and harder to justify my position, I watch Ali, I see the opposition he beat, I watch the fights of the guys that he beat and I wonder, can you easily pick Louis above Ali?

    Ali looks so good on film, his level of opponent so high, whereas Louis has the 'bum of the month club' as a supposed mark against his name, yet beat so many former and future HW champs

    What is the classic sections opinion?

    Louis and Ali vying for the top? or not? easy to put Louis top or not, whats your rationale for having either fighter at 1 or 2?

    It does seem to be easy, for quite a lot of folks. I don't see it personally...probably you need to make loud noises about dominance.

    Well, IMO, they are 1# and #2... they can be switched around and it wouldnt bother me so much.
    what bothers me is when people have lewis in the top 2

    No, I just meant that that's what people use as their argument, but it doesn't convince me personally. Ali is bona fide numero uno for me.

    Thank you, but is it an easy no brainer for you? or do you really have to think about it?

    Where does Louis figure in your top 10?

    It isn´t easy to put one of them above the other. Both are good choices for number one. I´m never able to split them. Neither is a Max Schmeling though.

    In terms of dominance, you have to ask, how dominant was Louis against: Walcott, Schmelling, Conn, Goddoy, Farr?

    I do, and I have no problem with people having Ali as number one, I just wonder in this day and age if there is an 'EASY' case to make Joe No1

    But he beat them yes? he was clearly better in his return matches with certain fighters.

    My question remians though, is it an easy argument to say he was the better HW champ over Ali?

    I don't think there should be personally. It's not a discredit to what Louis did, he's probably the greatest champion of all time, period. But champion discussions are nowhere near the be all and end all of this type of debate, and although Louis did what he did, and is my number two, he can't be my number one, through no fault of his own, what Ali did was greater imo.

    Borderline impossible.

    It's incredibly easy to place Ali at the top though, it just feels right.
