they are so arguably close its ridiculous.

ok lets say eubank beats watson.
then we got benn v eubank...eubank.
then theres the problem...collins and calzaghe beat eubank.

can we really assume calzaghe and collins were better?
how can we argue they were worse?

would collins have beaten mcclennen?

would calzaghe have beaten collins?

it gets murky.

i dont want to believe and i honestly dont think that collins and calzaghe > benn and eubank >> watson.

it was a war between them and it took a lot out of these fighters.

a good question is would roy jones have beaten all of them.

some would say so but i doubt it.

I think Jones would've beaten them all clearly. But yeah, there isn't a huge amount of difference between the brits and Collins.

Eubank and Benn are interchangeable though. I rank Collins lower because Benn was shot and he was rather fortunate to get the 1st verdict over Eubank. Apparently he was a deserving victor in the rematch though.

 

collins beating both men does raise questions. also i dont think people should automatically give calzaghe that much credit. could he walk through all 4? he beat one out of peak.

 

If Calzaghe fought all of the others at their best I'm pretty sure he'd pick up a defeat on the way. Probably Eubank or Benn.

 

Benn was past his prime, involved in too many wars.

Calzaghe - Achieved the most out of everyone, and was probably the second most talented.

Watson - Easily the most technically gifted out of the bunch, and probably the most talented overall IMO. Achieved less than everyone on the list, but fought in a brutal era where frankly none of the list would have survived. Outclassed Benn and was the better fighter in both fights against Eubank (particularly the second).

Benn - overrated, especially at middleweight. Got lucky against McClellan - although his amazing heart had a lot to do with it tbf. I suppose his boxing skills, especially his defensive ability, were better than some give him credit for.

Collins - underrated, feel major misgivings about not putting Collins above Benn

Eubank - most overrated British fighter in history, period. Had far more bad performances than good. Couldn't cope with volume punchers, nor counterpunchers - needed a CLEAR stylistic advantage to look half-decent. Style over substance, big time. Was a better middleweight than he was a super-middle, unlike Benn where it was the other way round.

 

collins is way under rated. wonder why that is?
