Why do you all think Quarry could stop Briggs? Briggs has been stopped twice in 56 fights (LKOby3 Wilson in '96 and LKOby5 Lewis in 1998. Wilson and Lewis are the only fighters who have knocked Briggs down as well. Briggs has faced powerful men like Mercer, McCline, and Foreman and remained upright.

Lewis and even Wilson punched much harder than Quarry. Quarry scored 32 KOs in 53 wins. The best fighter he stopped was Ernie Shavers (who wasn't known for his chin).

Quarry was stopped 6 times in 66 fights (Frazier x2, Chuvalo, Ali x2, and Norton).

I'm not a fan of Briggs or Quarry. I just think Quarry is being overrated, as usual.

Mercer was ancient, as was Foreman. McCline did put him down but as typical of him refused to go for the kill.

He also stopped Thad Spencer & Mac Foster. Wilson was a glass jaw who never made it and was an even 6 feet tall as Quarry.

Stopped on cuts and an accumulation of punishment, but showed remarkable ability to stand up to a beating even in losses. Had Briggs fought as many quality men as Quarry, he would have been stopped more than a few times as well. But instead he has only beaten a single ranked contender in his whole life, a 12th round comeback KO win over Lyakhovich.

Why do people act like getting stopped on a cut (or several cuts) doesn't count as a stoppage. A boxer's face bleeds because he has been punched in the face... usually a lot. Quarry was a bleeder... why couldn't Briggs make him bleed? One big punch form Briggs might bust Quarry's face open. I don't give a **** how tough Quarry was, if he gets cut badly the fight is going to be stopped (TKO)... that's still a KO people.

Anyway, I could really could care less about either fighter. They were both boderline bums IMO.

Wilson had a much longer reach than Quarry and was solid at 215Lbs. That makes him bigger than Quarry. He also punched much harder than Quarry. Sure, he had a china chin but what does that have to do with anything? Quarry was better than Wilson but he still didn't punch as hard.

It's just that only two men stopped him on cuts, Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali. Briggs is nowhere near the level of either.

You seem to care quite a lot about Quarry as you criticize him at every given opportunity. Calling him a borderline bum just shows you have no idea of what you're talking about, or that you're being a troll.

i think although quarry was a classic buzsaw swarmer, briggs is bigger, faster and hits like a ton of bricks..i see him knocking out quarry, within 6...brigs doesnt have a bad chin, he could box when he wanted to and he maintains his ko power till the end....

You are right about that... Briggs ain't **** compared to Ali and Frazier but neither was Quarry. He was stopped 6 times, and not always on cuts... a point I was going to get at but you beat me to it.

I'm not trolling, I just find it funny how some guys get talked up so much when they really weren't that great. Quarry was a fan favorite because he was a tough guy. His limitations made him exciting (kinda like Gatti and Ward... Ward was even tougher than Quarry IMO and Gatti "could" box better than Quarry... when he wanted to).

He wasn't the hardest guy in the world to hit, he could take a beating, he got cut every once in a while, he could bang a little, and he was white. What's not to like? I like watching old Quarry fights too.. but I'm not delusional.

Against the best of the best he couldn't do much though, neither could Ward and Gatti.
