Yeah, but Pac is an angles fighter and his pressure is a product of his speed. He isn't fighting you to wear you down to the body and then beat the will out of you, he is chasing you down to weave in front with straight lefts and awkward shots. The jab coming from pernell would be a hold off and range finding punch. Pernell schooled orthodox fighters who looked to land something damaging, at least give Pac the credit of having a shot in the fight, I wouldn't say a KO is anywhere near reality, but his speed and movement would give anyone trouble at this point.
Pac's has fast feet but his footwork is lightyears behind a prime Pea's those angles that he uses against stationary slow plodding fighters wouldn't be there against Pea who would out manuever him around the ring to land his shots and be gone. It would actually be funny to watch Pac try his one-dimensional attack on a master boxer like Pea Whitaker.:rofl But I guess you're right he could land a lucky punch and knock Pea out.:good
Well, you're arguing a point in an era where Pea was ahead of his time. You couldn't train for him like you could now. So it's all subjective speculation anyway. But Pac's athleticism carries it's own weight in any era of boxing, it's just who was honing it and how.
Sweetpea would make PAc miss all night long. JMM is not even half the boxer Pea was. If PAc was a better flat footed fighter than he is today, I'd give this match up serious thought.
Manny would land on Pea for sure, at least the 147 versions of both, he would certainly connect, especially if Pea swayed too much as he was wont to do. You cannot avoid and completely negate a combination of hand and foot speed like Pacquiao has.
PAc has legit speed mate. Not slow ass molasses dela hoya or Chaves, trinidad etc.Pac will catch him for sure.
pea was very effective being a southpaw but pac is also a southpaw and it wouldnt give him such an advantage. I think at 130 135 anyone could win, but 140 and 147 pac would win by late tko or ud just too much pressure and power. chavez was 1 dimensional, pac is not.
I am not defending *******s but at the same time a lot of the slick counter puncher fans tend to say "with superior counter punching he is going to school x" - as if every counter punchers never have been beaten. As if counter punching is the answer to every style out there. It is a fall back answer it requires no thought and knowledge because by just saying 'counter -punch' there is this expectation that you will tag some one every time. So saying counter punching is not really an answer either. It is as much of a knee jerk answer like "Pacs speed and footwork". Be honest, even Pea has been tagged by lesser offensive minded boxers. He is not a ghost. While his defensive skills puts him in the top 3 defense ATG it is does not mean immunity.
Catching Sweetpea means nothing as Pea's never come close to being ko'd. Dlh and Tito were in their prime and bigger than Pea, and Pea still held his own against both guys. Pea would use his jab, his left to the body of PAc, and out box Pac easily...
This is so ****ing true. I hate how a lot of certain fans like to think that slickness is a deciding factor in a match up. It really isn't.
*******s truly think that PAc is greater than Duran and Pea lol... A crying @#!@$##@ shame lol... It's embarrassing to even think this lol...
It's certainly not wrong to rank Pacquiao over Whitaker on an ATG list. He's captured more lineal titles than anyone in boxing, and is a champion in more weights than anyone in boxing. I say Pea beats him prime for prime at 35-40 with 47 being a little more ambiguous but that doesn't mean that Pac shouldn't get the ranking nod. Duran is obviously a greater fighter than both by a solid bit.
