A break down of their respective technical gifts and flaws. Not only who you think is the most technical gifted of the two.

Haven't got the time right now, but basically Whitaker is more consistently a complete technician, therefore i deem him the more complete man stylistically, technically. But Mayweather is varied as well and some things he does technically good he does superb.

Lateral movement is Pernell but footwork/balance is Mayweather

This is pretty much where I'm at as well. You probably should add Pea's superior combination punching though, and Floyd seems a bit stronger in his "static" defense (defending without movement, just through guard and tucked in chin - leaving no vulnerable area exposed).

    Good distinction. I agree.

Pernell is better in every area, particularly at the jab. Floyd can punch harder, but so what. He never gets any where near KO's if he fought who Pernell fought.

I consider Peas footwork to be better in that it puts him in better positions and helps him manouver his opponents where he wants him, Floyd can be guilty of being reactionary, Floyd's feet are probably quicker though. Both had great balance and poise

Whitaker has better balance. ****, he almost drops to his knees and manuevers around. I never seen Floyd do that.

The occasional lack of balance is what got put Pea on his ass at times, more than being legitimately hurt, anyway. More out of ego than anything, though. He never took the time to correct his habit of crossing his feet on the move.

That said, I disagree with Mayweather being more adjustable/varied in his style. Very much so, as a matter of fact. I'd give Pete the edge there. Their countering abilities are at least on a par as well.

Well i suppose it's a subjective topic, footwork, but my ultimate stance on it is that Whitaker has quality footwork, but technically it wasn't all that perfect, ie mistakes etc. His lateral/circular movement and mobility is atg but for pure footwork Mayweather's has been immaculate at times, and always technically spot on.

Whitaker was very good at actually making some fights in to prolonged inside brawls for stretches of time, something I don't think Mayweather is nearly as capable of.

Both are among the most skillfull of the last 20 years but with Pea I always have the feeling he is relaxed in there and has fun while with Mayweather I often think he is tense and somehow a bit nervous.
