Prime Whitaker toyed with Paez. He did lose some rounds, I agree, but he treated that fight with contempt. Do you honestly believe he was pulling out all stops there? He didn't exit second gear all night. You can take that as an excuse if you like, but it's the truth.

And Buddy McGirt is much better than anyone Mayweather has fought at welterweight.

Your comparing one time to several with Judah and Whitaker. You can think what you want, but I believe Judah is a little better than your giving him credit for. It wasnt just because he was fast either, hes a southpaw that had speed, power and some decent skills, no shame in giving him some credit as a solid fighter.

Let me translate that for the forum Scientist......

Whitaker did'nt respect Paez' punching power, thus he did'nt go into ultra defensive mode.

If I remember correctly, Whitaker stood right in front of Paez and never ran circles while backtracking as he did vs Chavez and DLH......
In fact, Whitaker often bodied up with Paez and traded with him.

Its not that Whitaker did'nt get out of 2nd gear.
He fought just fine wanting to hurt Paez.

The only thing out of character for Whitaker was that he emphasized offense and let defense take a back seat in this one, thus gettting hit and losing some rounds due to Paez' activity.

I'll correct myself Scientist, Whitaker was in 2nd gear as you said, but it was defensively for lack of respect.
Offensively he hit every gear there was.

A prime Mayweather struggled with Jose Luis Castillo, who is considered a lighter version of Chavez.

I don't feel he went all out offensively either to tell the truth. Whitaker going all out offensively is him vs. Roger Mayweather, Greg Haugen, Poli Diaz, Buddy McGirt. Against Paez he was walking backwards and just prodding Paez, keeping him honest.

It's true that he didn't respect his shot and therefore didn't stay as alert defensively though. But Paez was the aggressor in the fight.

People bring up the fact that PBF had problems with JLC, well Chavez had major problems with Taylor, and Mayweather was way better than Taylor.

    Chavez couldn't carry Floyd's jockstrap at 130.

I thought we had gotten past this

Castillo moulded himself on Chavez..he was basically just a poor mans version of him.

Taylor was black and quick, thats about where the similarities end between him and Mayweather...NO WAY does Floyd fight Chavez like that. Taylor was faster than Floyd..He threw a lot of shots in that fight, standing his ground and being quite aggressive. Most importantly he left everything in the ring that night, Mayweather just wouldnt do that.

Castillo is a hell of a lot more like Chavez than Mayweather is like Taylor. The Taylor-Chavez fight is almost of no significance for analysing a fight between JCC and Floyd.

I agree they aren't entirely similar, the most similar fighter is Whitaker who is again quite different but with similar stylistic advantages. Taylor isn't nearly as good as Floyd, his defense is wide open and he slaps. The speed is what gave Chavez nightmares in that 1 though so its worthy of mentioning

Mayweather beat Castillo emphatically in the rematch whatever you say of the first. Castillo was also bigger than Chavez weighing around 148 in the ring according to HBO

That and about double the workrate and punch output of Floyd on his best night.

Yes it certainly wouldn't be the same fight, Mayweather would likely slow/nullify Chavez's output and focus on quality rather than play the 140lb Calzaghe that was Taylor

Mayweather is not WAY better than Taylor............Highlighted, bold, underlined is just silly fanboy stuff. If you think Mayweather beats Chavez at 130, fine.
