According to Interbox, they received an offer to fight Pavlik in March at a catchweight of 166lbs.

The fight would feature Cloud-Diaconu on the undercard (HBO).

    *UPDATE*
Looks like Interbox and Bute are open to the idea of fighting Pavlik in the USA.

    From Dan Raphael's notebook:

HBO should demand it like Martinez-Williams II and we have a great fight. Don't know exactly what Pavlik & Team are looking for at 160, it's a young division now with no major $$$ fights whereas Bute can generate pretty big in Canada.

Pavlik doesn't belong in the same ring with Bute. Utter mismatch.

Even more crushing defeat for Kelly. He needs to take a few confidence building fights before he gets in there with anyone with a pulse. Let alone a guy who emulates a similar style to the guy he just got embarrassed by.

    Can't see this fight happening.
    Love to watch it though.
    Pavlik career is sadly over.

he's not going to 160 unless they feel they can after the vera fight. if 160 doesnt physically feel doable than 168 it is and kelly said he wants a title shot either way.

as big of a pavlik fan as i am...i wouldnt be on him beating bute. ive seen bute improving (albiet against competition pavlik would beat as well) and i've seen pav stagnate at 160.

I'd love this to happen but it just seems unlikely. In one regard it's perfect - it gives Bute the biggest fight he can get at the weight right now and a win for Pavlik would re-invigorate his career overnight.

I'd be very surprised if Pavliks team threw him in there with a guy like Bute though. His first major fight at 168 against a guy who seems to be all wrong for him? I'll believe it when I see it.

during a six fight stretch, shane mosely lost 4 fights, very arguably a 5th and had a NC. three of those fights were horribly one sided.

he then came back to win the WW title.

some people genuinely think his career will be over...others geniunely hope it will be over. neither is a foregone conclusion. pavlik is better than anyone bute has fought. i don't think he can beat him but he can give him all he wants. i know food poisoning was cited as the reason bute was left for dead in the corner against andrade. be that as it may...he was left for dead in the corner and if andrade could follow the rules and go to the neutral corner, bute has a loss. pavlik has never been put in that position.

look at it this way. pavlik has been beaten by speed, agility, lateral movement, ring IQ...all the things bute has. bute has been beaten by constant straight ahead pressure...all the things pav does well. the 0 is still on bute's record but he hopelessly was out in the corner.

i'm not betting on kelly but its not a lost cause either.

I hope that if that fight happens will will be made in Atlantic City or something. Hopefully people would give Bute props for fighting on the road.

Other then that, I see Bute being the first man to stop Pavlik.

So yet again, Bute's gonna fight a non-elite SMW (non-elite MW actually) at home? Sounds about right. What a pretender.

If you think Bute wins easily, then just say that. But don't tell me Pavlik's resume isn't good enough to warrant a fight with Bute. Be real.

The super middleweight division is an absolute mess. Dirrell is gone. Kessler is gone. Taylor is gone. I think that after Froch/Abraham, Carl will be gone. Green is not a viable opponent. Stieglitz is a tough/decent fighter, but he isn't really world class, and KP would beat him up worse than Andrade did. Abraham and Ward will be tied up for at least another year. The division is a mess, and there are no big name opponents for Bute to fight.

Reports indicate that Pavlik entered camp at around 172 pounds. That's 3-5 pounds lighter than the 2006-2007 norm. He was 168 with 5 weeks to go before the Vera fight. It won't surprise me if he is a little light on 11/13. He's better off at 160 where he can fight Williams, rematch Martinez, fight Pirog, and maybe goad Sturm into leaving Germany. There is more money and more action at 160 than at 168.

I remember making a thread about this after he lost to hopkins. I have always seen this as a really good fight. Bute has seemed to improve lately while kp has gone backwards. A williams pavlik fight would be great as well but it would be so hard to hype kp if he lost that. I'd personaly like to see him vs. williams then have a few confidence builders at smw.
