Our sanctioning bodies really the problem?

They are a big problem in that no sports fans outside of the hardcore boxing lunatics (ie. us!) can follow boxing to a reasonable degree any more.

If you had one sanctioning body and one set of rankings, they'd all be fighting each other to get to the number 1 slot.

As it is, you can stake a claim to being number one by cherrypicking your way to a belt.

...what do the boxing sactioning bodies gain by creating multiple belt champions ?-is it financial from sanctioning fee's etc,or is it an attempt to attract more t.v fights for exposure to more "fringe fans"?

 

Chisora didn't even know what belts he fighting for...he had to ask in the interview on SSN...i hope he was taking ****...i don't think he was.

Tommy hit nail on head for me, I don't mind two belts, because in this day and age the way fighters go on i wouldn't object to two belts on the go. Obviously prefer one out and out champion. Although i've grown up in this multi belt area so it doesn't bother me as much as the older lads..

 

Oh it's all about the money, the more belts, the more title fights, the more sanctioning fees. Why have your regular champion fight your interim champion, when you could have them each fight nobodies and get a cut from two "world" title fights.

I see you point but if there was only one or less (my personal opinion is two is best) Andre Berto would have no chance of gettng near a world title and being the name he is without having to fight other top contenders or world class fighters.

If there were only 2 belts at his weight they would be held by Mayweather and Pac. To get to the position he is in today to challenge he probably would have to have fought in recent years Cotto Margarito Mosley Clottey etcetc to be near a shot so he would have to face world class fighters if he wanted a sniff at the title

 

And yet if there was one sanctioning body and therefore one title, he wouldn't be the one who has it. Hence he would be forced to face better opposition if he wanted to win that title.

 

Ah you've listed out a few good fights there, but how many terrible mandatory challengers have the orgs come up with over the last few years. And how many good fights have been put together by TV networks.

Bradley vs Alexander is nothing to do with organizations (although I think one of them did have Devon as Timbo mando before, but whatever), and Matrinez vs Williams II and so on.

I don't see the WBA forcing Gamboa vs John. Don't the WBA have a 3rd champion at featherweight, or am I wrong on that.
