People are talking like Foreman wouldn't be taking punishment either. I'm thinking Holy would force an unbievable pace and wear Big George out. Holy has the chin to handle and adjust to George's power, and I don't think George would have the same power later in the fight. Holy wins in my book, either by decision or late tko.
No. He sure as **** didn't. And nobody else ever had either. Holy tries to brawl here (and he would) and it all ends very quickly. Better men than Holy were blown out by Pre-Ali George. (Norton and Frazier). This doesn't go three.
I think this goes 5, actually. Holyfield sometimes had the smarts to avoid a punch-out earlier in the fight. A big part of his plans were to box and slowly build steam. He can't handle Foremans power, though. Eventually, he stands in front of George, and gets hit with one that takes his legs just enough that he does'nt get away from what Foreman throws as follow up and gets dropped. He probably gets up, but can't stay up.
I disagree. I don't think Foreman had great one-punch knockout power. He sure as hell hurt you, but he mostly knocked you out with a combination of powerful punches. Norton always gave the fighters that beat him highlight-reel knockouts, and Frazier was just too small and short of arm. I'm pretty sure Holy could have handled his power.
Holy had enough trouble with an ancient version of Foreman. None of your speculation came to pass when Holy met that version of Foreman. Prime Holyfield eeked out a 7-5 or 8-4 decision The 1973 version had better movement and could cut off the ring better. If he couldn't stop the supremely confident, undefeated, prime George, 18 years later, knocking out the 24 year old version would be a definite stretch.
You need to watch Foreman's earlier fights. Foreman didn't cut of the ring, he would let his opponents come to him and counter them with his superior reach. He put his deadly combo's together very well. The key to beating Foreman is to make him lead and come after you. Holy is not quite that kind of fighter, but I believe he can survive early trouble and eek out a win.
I meant GEORGE Foreman. You must be thinkin' of some other dude. I watched the Frazier Roman and Norton fights live, and a number of times since. Frazier tried coming forward for some of the first round. After that, Foreman was advancing and Joe was retreating for the rest of the fight. Foreman was advancing on Norton and cutting off the ring almost from the opening bell. And Roman was retreating from the staredown on. George was on top of his ass the entire fight, all two minutes or so. As I mentioned earlier, Prime Holy had his hands full with an 18 year older version of Foreman. And his corner feared George's KO power even in the twelfth, urging Holy not to mix it up with George. IMO, this would have been an early blowout in George's favour.
Roman and Norton were knockouts waiting to happen, and Frazier was intimidated. Holy wouldn't be intimidated.
Knockouts waiting to happen ??? Well that answers that, then. This is the same Norton that had gone 1-1 with Ali (some thought 2-0). And Frazier intimidated ? After the first three KDs, he might have been a little intimidated. But he sure as hell wasn't intimidated going into the fight. 44 year old Foreman gave Prime Holy a good fight and took all of his punches like they were from a lightweight. And you figure 25 year old, undefeated Foreman would have had trouble with him ? We'll agree to differ on this one. Very Hot Av, BTW.
Well to be fair, pretty much anybody stupid enough to step in a ring with prime Foreman was a knockout waiting to happen.
No. Evander's skills would see him lasting quite a few rounds, and winning his share of the points, but it would n't take that long for him to get sucked into a brawl. When that happens,George would blast him out of there.
I like Holyfield. His heart, chin and stamina would see him get past the first 6 at which point he becomes a firm favourite.
Holyfield was more durable than Norton and even Frazier IMO. He was in every way better than Norton IMO... even if it wasn't by much in any one category. They were also very similar in size and build... Norton is a 1/2" taller and has a longer reach by 2", their weight is close. Holyfield was taller, bigger and had a longer reach than Frazier but Frazier was more of a KO puncher compared to Holyfield. Holyfield's hooks were good, but Frazier's were better (no shame). Holyfield was a more technical fighter and more durable. It goes well beyond the 3rd round.
