Despite the lack of experience that DeGale holds, its pretty clear hes the far better fighter here and he already has more in his arsenal than Smith. He'll give DeGale some hard rounds though I see him being outclassed. McDonnell will get DeGale in top shape so I doubt going the distance will bother him.

Its a great step up for DeGale, looking forward to the fight.

I dislike chunky. Would like smith to win. But it's not likely. Smith might punch harder but he neglects his jab and body punching. Without that, chunk will just slap away till smith cuts and it gets stopped.

Relatively speaking Smith is a weak British super middleweight champion and Degale could be a bit special. Degale has already shown that he is ready for Smith and I can see him doing it inside five one sided rounds. Degale should (if indeed he wins) make a few defences before taking on the likes of Brian Magee though.

I'd like to say DeGale as Smith does nothing for me at all and DeGale has potential. However, I think Frank has made an incredibly odd miscalculation here. I think he MUST feel sure but just can't see it myself.

As ordinary as I think Smith is, DeGale gets MASSIVE props from me if he comes through this.

I agree, with the venue/location maybe proving the important factor for Smith to dig just that little bit deeper to get the decision.

been thinking about this and it reminds me of when warren stepped naz up to fight steve robinson in cardiff (apologies if anyones made this comparison already) put him in the lions den, a hostile, sell-out welsh crowd and backed him to step up and become a star.

i know that was a world title fight and this is just for the british, but it's a similar sort of play from frank, he must have huge confidence in chunky to go into smith's backyard and an arena full of scousers. if degale pulls off anything like naz did that night, another star may be born.

DeGale has the ability to out box him but if he decides to trade it will get intresting.

DeGale Wins by UD for me

Naz was much more developed of course, but it's not a bad comparison actually.

DeGale by stoppage. I think James offers far too much class and even though Smith is tough and talented I can not see him winning or staying the distance. Big thumbs up to Smith for taking the fight though, he could have sat back and taken on dodgy Lithuanians until he got a world title crack but he has shown immense bottle and a thought of the fans with this.

    Accidently choose Smith by ko.:patsch

DeGale should outclass Smith. Stoppage (possibly of the bull**** variety) around 6-7th.
