Which decade had the better B/C-grade lightweights?

Pretty much yes, I thought he would have beat JMM and Pac at 130, biggest waste of talent in recent times :-(

I also think Yuri Romanov, Khan and Bobby Zanzie would have scalped a few names from the lists, although none of them achieved that much, Romanov seems to have disapeared off the face of the earth, he looked like the new Tyszu, I certainly would have picked him over Katsidis, maybe over Juan Diaz

 

The truth is the Casamayor that fought Castillo most probably beats Juan at 135.

I was a big Casamayor fan, the best prime for match up would probably be at 128lbs with a 2003-4 JMM and a 2002 Casa

 

I love how Pacquaio is excluded as being an A grade Lightweight but Marquez is down as a B or C.

Hasn't Pacquaio only ever fought at the weight once, against David Daiz?

Marquez at lightweight is the lineal champion who beat the top2 in the division, Casa and J Daiz x 2.

I think there more of a case for Marquez being a A grade lightweight rather than Pacquaio, Just my opinion.

 

For me, except for Mayweather passing through the division, Castillo is the best lightweight of his era, clearly actually. Maybe he deserves to be mentioned as an A grade, relatively that is. I understand why he is seen as a B grade objectively in an overall sense though.

No doubt about it Marquez has done more at the weight than Pac. I was generally listing them in terms of ability though. I'm assuming that Pac is a better lightweight ability wise. Now maybe even THAT is a wrong assumption, but I think it's a good one.

 

Castillo is a weird one for me (as far as being the best lightweight of his era). I thought he lost twice to Stevie Johnston, beat Mayweather the first time, edged Casamayor and then he lost to Corrales. Looked at from that regard his record is very B list. I get what you are saying though Teeto.

 

Not to sound like a homer, but the 80's, without question. Such a compilation of talent, such a great blend of styles playing against each other. That and the junior middleweights were the two divisions everyone was watching then. They were considered the best.

 

Yeah actually. Suppose it goes by how you see his close fights, and if you regard the Johnston fights as really a part of the Casmayor era. Yeah i don't have a problem with him being in the B list then SS:good
