Ramirez will show Marquez virtually no respect IMO...He took pastings from far bigger punchers and managed to eat up everything that came his way. If he wasnt going to respect Rosario after copping it for those first two round in their fight I dont see him shying away from anything that Marquez hit him with. That being said he will be outlanded by a significant clip and if it goes the rounds this will surely be the difference..Thats why I did pick Marquez but it aint an easy win as divacs assessment predictably pointed to.
Difference is though that Pac would get hurt by Marquez's punches. I just don't see it happening with Ramirez. He will not need to explode and then worry about getting out of the way, they way Pac did. That gave JMM the room to get set and then deal with Pac's (almost predictable) form of attack. The danger for JMM is that Ramirez will take two or three shots to get in one of his own and so won't be pushed back to allow Marquez room to re-engage. Slow as Ramirez is, it's just a totally different ball game to his fights with Pac. I don't have to make a big deal about this. Whilst I think Chavez actually did put in some hurtful shots on Ramirez, especially in the second half of the bout, even if he didn't, it's irrelevant to the point I was making - guys like Rosario and Arguello hit hard and hit Ramirez hard - they hit HARDER than Chavez. Even if Chavez was putting on a glorified sparring session (I believe he was doing more than that), the fact that Ramriez ate the bombs of Rosario and Arguello speaks for itself.
He stuck to a gameplan after those bad rounds. He sure as hell didn't eat the shots, smile, and walk through them to put on pressure. It can't be done against a Marquez. To beat JMM with pressure, it needs to be intelligent, or super fast, preferrably a lot or alittle of both. Ramirezs pressure, while heavy and boosted by his power, isn't great technically, and I struggle to see Marquez having difficulty with it. Diaz is weaker in every way but skill and speed. He is easily Ramirez's superior in these areas, and these are the areas you need to bother a Marquez.
I think its safe to assume that a Marquez-Ramirez matchup would have Ramirez the aggressor and Marquez on the backfoot. Does anyone disagree? Now, the Rosario and Arguello fights for Ramirez had both Rosario and Arguello mostly coming forward. Ramirez was a pretty good boxer and his southpaw stance more than anything likely is what gave Arguello some problems. My question is, what skilled fighter who fought on the backfoot did Ramirez look impressive against???? Whitaker? Camacho? A big factor to consider in this matchup is that Marquez is very comfortable fighting southpaws, not only twice beating Pacquiao imo, but he's had great success througout his career vs southpaws, where most conventional stance fighters have problems with them. Something to consider here guys!
He's not a dancer no, but he is superior in angling away from a plodder. Ramirez is far from a JC Chavez type who's good at cutting off the ring and closing distance. Against Ramirez you dont have to be a dancing cutie to get away from his type of pressure.
Not necessarily but Ramirez will be there for 12 rounds and will come on extremely strong late in the fight, as against Rosario the first time. Diaz was faster, but Ramirez is physically stronger, much tougher and more powerful, which could be more troubling for a former featherweight than you could imagine. Marquez has not fought a man comparable to Ramirez, not until he fights Katsidis atleast. We will see whether Marquez eats him up, perhaps he will. There's just no way this would be an easy fight for a 135 lb Marquez in my opinion. He doesn't have the fresh legs of a Whitaker and Camacho, he would have to fight Ramirez at parts and we know Ramirez had the strength and power to put him down if he manages to clip him in those exchanges.
Ramirez is a better figher, but Rocky Juarez has some of the same qualities that Ramirez had. The same type of speed and temperament in the ring as well. Marquez just toyed with Rocky, and Rocky like Ramirez is tough as nails, the type of fighter who will have success if you're right there in front and exchanging with him. Marquez I will add did not plant his feet and war with Juarez. He knew Juarez was dangerous on the inside, and that he (Marquez) knew he could angle and keep the distance he wanted using faster foot movement than Rocky. I think the same type of style and pace would unfold with Ramirez.
This would be a very good fight. With some scary moments for Marquez i can see him going down more than once, but he is the classier operator here and he will sweep enough rounds to win a close but convincing decison.
