I watched this last night and was buzzing .Watched when we were kings as well .Good I didn't think it was that good [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNTdUfByIhY&feature=player_embedded[/ame]
"Scared of what? Scared of what?". Ali trying to convince himself as much as the press. Thanks for sharing!!
That was a top tribute, cheers for posting :good That fight is def on my 'to rewatch soon' list, great performance and event.
Watch this .When we were kings .Ali sparring .Used to let his sparring partners beat him against the ropes so he could absorve punishment .Now I can see where that punch came from against Foreman , f----g quality .In against the ropes . [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5t0x3nIBLE[/ame]
About 7 minutes into this vid is my fave part of When We Were Kings: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TH9b-ADkKpo[/ame]
What surprises me everytime is how relatively in control Ali was of that fight, just watching the highlights and docs you would think otherwise.
IMHO thats because Ali's one chance of winning was thought to be jab and move, when he didn't do that and lay on the ropes people "saw" Foreman being able to fight the fight he needed to to win.
Yep, i'm sure that's how it must've looked at the time. But if someone today watches the documentaries and reads the books then sees the full fight, they would get a differing pictorial.
I can remember the advert for this, when...."When we where king" was coming out on VHS, all them years ago. I was just a kid, looking in aur at the TV...... I got it for Christmas that year, must of been well over a decade ago. 1997/1998..??? I like the mystery of Muhammad Ali's tatics, he told nobody that he was going to throw over 15 right hand leads in the opening round..!!! over 15 right hand leads, and try and knock Foreman out..!!!
My granda was around that yr that's how I know .That's the year he died .I wasn't even into boxing when he was around but I found him on boxrec .Boxed Don McTaggart http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=e...oAQ&q=when+we+were+kings+release+date&spell=1
I went to the Hilton to see this fight, took the ex wife, had a great Chinese meal at MR CHOW.....from the very beginning i thought Foreman was made for Ali,thought i was going to see this on big screen.....it turned out to be just a little bigger than my T.V....GREAT NIGHT THOUGH
