What happened to his punching power? I can't believe how many times he hit Briggs with power punches. Has his power decreased, or was it always overrated? It's funny he said Haye doesn't have power. I can't see Briggs withstanding a bunch of right hands from Haye. Is it safe to say Haye hits harder than Vitali Klitschko? I think so . . .
According to BJ Flores he has the "heaviest hands in the history of the division". That's a direct quote, unabridged. :yep :nut His power hasn't really receded. Briggs is almost impossible to knock out cold, unless you're Darroll Wilson and it's 1996. Vitali wasn't getting the KO and it was obvious (check my pick in Rummy's Challenge - Vitali UD, all by myself...and I put my only vcash on the Over 9.5 Rounds prop bet). Vitali throws fairly heavy arm punches and hits harder than most active heavyweights - but he's nowhere near Wladimir's level in pure punching power, and is certainly not up there with any ATG and never has been - regardless of his high TKO ratio.
He doesn't commit near as much as he use to and has slowed down considerably and speed is no small aspect of power.
Vitali's high KO percentage is a result of his weak resume. Lennox knocked out a 12 year younger, 35 pound lighter, fresher Shannon Briggs in 5 rounds. Vitali is a weak fighter, his resume is ****, and he is wayyy overhyped. He is no where near being a great heavyweight with his shitty resume. He would be knocked out/TKO-ed by Lennox, Tyson, Holyfield, Haye, and many heavyweights of the past IMO. Same goes for Wladmir. Both are mediocre fighters benefiting from the weakest era in the sport. Haye would probably Pavlik both of them. I say that not as a hater, but as a scientific fact.
But yet he stayed on his feet, strange. Vitali has 2 knockdowns in his last 6 fights. His power is gone.
arm punches...can'r you see the guy is not getting full body behind the punches? No wonder he never knocks anyone... but surely it is hurtful...
nothing wrong with vitalis power! Briggs tokk massive right hands and didnt go down! amazing chin and heart!
Fantasy land is a safe world where you can control the outcome Briggs says Vitali is stronger and better than Foreman or Lewis should we believe Briggs or..................you?
I'd take the opinion of a fighter who has just been humiliated and probably hasn't accepted the reality of where he is at in his career with a grain of salt. Especially when his opinions collide with basic reasoning. ^ Whats going on with this herbzg guy i thought he tossed the salad of all European born fighters?
I remember when Vitali was thought as a KO machine. When he fought Hide he'd KO'ed everybody and the manner he dispatched Hide by KOing him with a glancing shot made me think this guy was a real life Ivan Drago. Clearly my initial impression was incorrect. I think Vitali's power has been effected by the injuries he's sustained which resulted in his retirement. Either he is no longer capable of generating the leverage he once could or he is forced to alter his punching technique to prevent a re-occurrence of his previous injuries. But even taking this into account his power while at one point was good was never the puncher his brother was or is.
