    I agree.

I think Vitali's toughness and assertiveness/aggression makes him a better overall fighter.

Wlad's more professional movement and technique make look better, and he probably does have more power, but Vitali's use of his height, his ability to hardly EVER get hit, and his iron chin makes Vitali the better fighter, in my opinion.

    Wlad easily.

Take away a gutsy effort in an eventual KO loss to Lewis and you've got very little of note from ''the people's hero'' Vitlay, who by comparison is very average.

Wlad is bordering on being a great fighter, end of story. As daft as it sounds, the fact that heavyweight contenders such as Povetkin and Haye are running for the hills speaks volumes as to how good he is.

He'll never make a top 10 because there's no Lewis/Tyson/Holyfield/Bowe to test himself against, but he's a top 20 HW now.

This rationale makes no sense to me.

That rationale could lead someone to saying that Michael Katsidis is a "better overall fighter" than prime Ivan Calderon.

Obvoiusly Katsidis is tougher and more assertive/aggressive than Calderon, but - that really doesn't factor in very much to the big picture. It's a small factor, among many. It's really the only factor in which Vitali shines brighter than Wladimir.

As someone said earlier in the thread, Wlad's a better boxer, Vitali's the better fighter. If you look at both men's career's, Vitali has never been down or out. I only seen him hurt twice, once against Lewis and once against Corrie "The Wlad Slayer" Sanders. Wlad on the other hand has been down more times than 90 percent of former heavyweight greats. Most of which came against journeymen fighters.

Wlad is the more skilled of the two, but when the going gets tough. Wlad seems melt like icecream, while Vitali stands strong in the pocket and goes to war. Give me Vitali any day of the week.

Being downed a lot automatically makes you a lesser fighter, regardless of the overall big picture?

Yeah, that Joe Louis, what a bum. If Wladimir's been down more than "90 percent of former heavyweight greats" then Joe is definitely in that other ten...despite ranking anywhere between GOAT and #3 at the lowest on most people's all-time lists...

I think the point was Sanders KO'd Wlad and Peter knocked him down 3 times where as Vitali beat the **** out of them.

Vlad said that if they were to fight, Vitali would win. He said that years ago.

    :good

As I said, VK's toughness is the deciding factor. It outshines Wlad's more fluid and pro techique, caues VItali also has very effective and damaging offense, but he's also got a mean streak, one hell of a defense, and an iron chin.

That was before Wladimir reached his peak form (2006-present).

Also, the point shouldn't have been anything other than explaining what risks Vitali took during the course of a fight, since the direct question addressed in the post that was a reply to asked for such an example (and was itself a response to the poster saying that Vitali is better because he "takes more risks").

No, but being TKO'd by 3 journeymen don't help. Wlad lost to two of those guys with 37 plus fights under his belt, so he wasn't green by any means.

Wlad's weak chin and lack of poise under pressure
is why I think Vitali would beat him. While Wlad's overall boxing abilty is better, Vitali is no punk. Wlad would actually have to fight to beat Vitali, something he hasn't really been in since Peter 5 years ago.

Vitali's toughness is why I take him over Wlad. If Vitali had the same chin as Wlad, I would have no problem picking Wlad over Vitali. Even today, I would pick Vitali over Wlad.

Vitali...I think if they ever fought Vitali would over power his brother...I know his brother is the better technical boxer but Vitali is ALOT stronger and tougher....

Vitali knocks him in 10 if he really tried

Until a couple of years ago I would have said Vitali but he's in decline and Wlad is at his peak right now.

I always rated Vitali over Wlad. Wlad early in his career was flawed and amateurish. Vitali very early on looked more suited to the professional game, look at how they both dealt with Sanders. But Steward has done an even better job with Wlad than Lewis and has seemingly ironed out his flaws.
