Yeah, I weigh head to head pretty heavily - maybe more than most.

Holmes lags pretty far behind the top two, but he's also got some distance on his other side between himself and 4-10.

So, not as unshakable as Louis or Ali in the razor-thin silver and gold race...but a pretty clear bronze at this point in history. Others might put Dempsey or Marciano or Johnson or Foreman ahead of him on strength of their resumes, which I can respect - but to my reckoning he cleans house better than just about anyone except his mentor in fantasy matches. That and a long if uninspiring reign create the aforementioned gap between himself and the greats not on the podium.

I definitely think Ali would beat him.

Lewis is my favourite heavyweight of all time and he would do very well head to head against many of the greats. But I am not blind to his flaws as a fighter even when he was focused and well prepared.

Lewis could be out jabbed as proven by Bruno and Mercer. I think Holmes and Ali with their combination of great jabs, skill and durability would be the toughest challenges for Lewis and I would favour both to beat him prime for prime though it would be close.

Maybe in a long bout..a 15 rounder.and depending which matchup we'd consider, if the trend were to persist and Lewis failed to put his opponent away by the 8th, he would slip into his alt style.."Lewis Version 2" I call it, and use his ultraconservative "boring" but smart boxing strategy...like he used vs Holyfield and Tua. I still rate Lewis amongst the elite but the "no ko's after 8" point is something to consider.

That's what I thought. I can respect that because Holmes showed champion qualities as well as terrific skills. He never really had a rival partner like Ali did to really test his greatness but very few HW champions do. I honestly think Holmes would deal awesomely with the boxers but have trouble with the aggressive type fighters.

Late 70's Larry against a properly galvanized mid-90's Lennox really is a wet dream. It'd be largely tactical, bestrewn with some really violent spells.

I think so too, but I really don't think it'd be anything easy by any stretch. I bet it'd be a very interesting fight.

Well Holyfield is at a size disadvantage and Bowe's infighting abilities(where the decisive moments were fought) compliment the size advantage very well, toe to toe. I think this was the key to Bowe's success. The all round better fighter is Holyfield, who can fight anywhere successfully and throw anything in good form.

Well rounded/complete does not always mean superior. Bowe had size and infighting ability (suited for where the fight was fought), that proved a slightly better combination perhaps, up against Holyfield's completeness. As did Lewis have size/ranged fighting, that perhaps did the same.

So imo, size was a major factor. Being slightly past prime against Lewis on top of this also. All the similar sized heavyweights that'll be in this discussion, you can put Holyfield against them all, i cant think of a single bad style matchup for Holy, nobody is all wrong for him. Except the behemoths ofcourse...but he did manage to beat one and draw with the other

I don't really think the no ko after round 8 is a substantial stat. I think it's just meaningless trivia. I agree with your theory, many believe he could've put Holyfield away but didn't. Doesn't mean he didn't win. I don't think the stat means as much as the Tyson one because this actually indicated at times he faltered, got frustrated, or started running out of steam by this time of a fight. Lewis also never lost past round 8... Tyson did.
