Aside from Booth-Molitar. They are hardly mouthwatering bills - mostly overmatched fights. Napa - Hall - and the ridiculous ending! I pity the people that had a bet on that fight
true there are some good match-ups in there,i just think peope get annoyed with some of his matchmaking for his prospects
Yep, and some of his matchmaking, especially with the heavyweights, has been pretty shocking (although you can't really moan with Big Larry's recent opposition). But people on here focus too much on the negatives rather than the positives. Maloney put on some poor cards last year (although he also put on the domestic card of the year with Moore vs Rhodes), but IMO he has stepped it up this year and put on some good shows with good undercard fights.
It's his matchmaking of prospects that is the major gripe - it's beyond a joke. Most of Price's & Jeffries' opponents shouldn't have had a licence to box in the UK..... end of story. There's plenty of rock solid domestic journeymen that can not only extend these two, but will need the money too. If Warren can shove DeGale in with someone like a Sam Horton after five or six fights..... surely Maloney can shove Price in with a Dave Ferguson or something?
No get it right as much as i like Maloney he is too cautious with his fighters and rarely puts more than one decent fight on a bill. His main problem is he doesnt work on a big budget like Hearn Warren Hatton do. He hasnt got the funds to bring in stiffer opposition. When he does spend the money to get fighters over or make the big fights he get his fingers burnt. Look at Moore Rhodes and Molitor Booth to some extent.
He seems to like to spread the money around.... instead of running with a few fighters - like Moore who should have been pushed yonks before..... he'd fare much better. Take Booth and Munroe away and you'd be hard pressed to find a fighter that he's done well with in the past three years. By that I mean genuinely well, not crappy vacant title fights.
If im being honest i think Hennessey has a better stable than him and when he was on ITV he put together much better shows
Exactly what I think. I really enjoyed Hennessey's ITV4 cards - it is a real shame that he hasnt got a tv deal yet
definitely especially someone like price olympic bronze medallist and id guess hes not too young or is he? if he cant beat the fergusons then he isnt going to be top class. there is so many good domestic matches at heavyweight that could be made!
Glad someone made the point. Maloney's matchmaker Jimmy Gill is one of the best in the business and often puts together great undercard fights. Tomorrow Hill v Kev Concepcion and Arthur-Hughes plus a good value main event. Dallas-Morris is poor as is Price's opponent but let's not be irrational.
Yes, I've already admitted that his matching of some of his prospects, for some reason the prospects that are most in the spotlight, is bad, very bad. But then again you look at the negatives (Price, Jeffries etc.) and don't look at the fighters who are making good progression and having good match-ups under Maloney (Ben Murphy, Ashley Sexton, Karl Place, Paul Edwards, Travis Dickinson, Erick Ochieng, John Watson...). Wrimc, come on, he's putting on at least 2 decent fights per show. Yes, there's some fluff on the card, and as you said he doesn't have the funds to bring in top opposition for everyone. My main gripe with him is putting the 'fluff' fights on the TV coverage. He should be getting the decent opposition, for the most part, for his 'star' names.
I would say this for the funds he has he does alright What my main gripe is the fact that he has a fairly large stable of prospects just off domestic title level. We don't see these fighters fighting for titles unless on another promoters show or slowly but surely as the main event of his card. The progression is too slow the matchmaking too soft.
take it for me powers would beat him soundly, the best heavy moloneys got is mcdermot, at least he knows he can fight anything thats alive and hits back, for **** sake paul morris could beat him, and if he tried he could make lightheavy.:huhpual morris that is.
