All the talk about "Briggs takes a punch better now" is nonsense.
Briggs is 38 and hadn't been past the first round in about 3 or 4 years, he has heart but his ability to absorb a punch is surely no better than it was when he was young, fit and active.

Briggs was fighting an OLD guy who never had great power for a big heavyweight, and whose power has decreased due to injury, ageing and loss of speed. Briggs took Vitali's shots because they weren't devastatingly powerful and he could see them coming.
Briggs saw most of those right hands, I'm sure, but he has the mobility of a concrete post, no speed and no defence.

This fight was as bad as predicted.
And Vitali looked his age, don't be fooled by how one-sidedly he beat Briggs. If there were a few decent young fighters around I'd say Vitali's time is up. Or maybe there are, but Vitali's not fighting them.

David Haye should be ashamed of himself if he's really afraid of this ageing old Frankenstein.
Haye could probably beat Vitali, I've been saying that all year.
I suspect Wlad would kill him though.

im honestly not arguing that Vitali is better then Lennox..but i dont know that Lennox is better either..its a toss up..prime Lennox is likely better then this version of Vitali..maybe....
as for haye.....he would stand almost no chance unless vitali gets a **** load older fast....

No. He never landed hundreds of clean solid punches. Vitali did versus Kevin Johnson, Cris Arreola and Shannon Briggs.

And he landed plenty on Lewis. Never put any of those four on the canvas. Far cry from the murderous puncher he's proclaimed to be.

I think he has actually lost some power in recent years. But with Johnson..he didn't land that clean due to the safety first style of johnson (really safety first middle and last) arreola seems to have a good chin but yea..I don't think that vitali hits as hard with one shot as tyson or lewis (at least this version doesn't)but he still hits pretty hard and he hits allot.

He can't possible believe that Klit was better than prime Lennox Lewis but I do think that he was giving proper respect to someone who just pummeled him for 12 rounds. I do , however, also believe that he was trying to ingratiate himself with German fans so that he can continue working.

Wasn't there a thread on here a couple of weeks ago about fighters sayin who were the hardest hitters they fought? None of them picked a fighter that put them down or stopped them so you'd have to take Briggs' comments with a pinch of salt. As for the Foreman comment, is there a case to be made that he never hit as hard second time round?

Exactly Vitali has never been a puncher, he's an arm puncher so by definition isn't a puncher. He's always beat opponents up on accumulation. Wald can punch, not Vitali

Vitali is very good, but power is not 1 of his attributes, its suprising even his fans would try to argue otherwise. Although most fans are ignorant and think punching power is the most important part of boxing, when in actual fact it is 1 of the less important aspects of boxing. IE Briggs is a much harder hitter than Vitali, it didn't mean too much last night

As for Vitali being better, well he's very different, he does have a significantly higher workrate, he possibly has a better defense. But in terms of being a puncher he's a league below Lennox

EDIT: Fights on youtube if your quick

Vitali's missed the boat completely of ever being considered in the same category as Lennox Lewis, and I'm no big fan of Lewis at all. (I think LL is overrated around here.)
Vitali just hasn't had a comparable career, and his recent opposition is a joke.

Wladimir I actually believe is arguably on par with Lennox Lewis.

Vitali is horribly slow and old already.
Yes, maybe Haye is that crap.

Vitali wanted a re-match. Lewis would not give one. He didn't willingly miss the boat. Only a shoulder injury and a cut cost him defeat, and he was winning both of those fights.

Some believe Vitali has slowed down some at age 39. I'll judge that when I see the fight today. Until then he's fast enough to land on anyone.

Lewis had the better career. Vitali has not beat up on past their prime atg's, but he would certainly beat the Holyfield and Tyson that Lewis fought.

Due to injuries, and politics, Vitali has taken a different career path. His comeback at age 37, after nearly 4 years to win his title back with no warm up fight is unprecedented in boxing history. At age 39, he's still active, avoided, and dominating the action.

They both fought peak Tyson too, didn't they? I mean come on, Tyson in his second last fight? He was beyond embarrassing.

Vitali hit him with everything except the kitchen sink again, and again, and again and again and nothing happened. This is on the power front of course.
