Sweet Pea may be the better boxer but this is not way he is a greater fight than Pacquiao Greater is different from better
pea fought at a time where money is not the name of the game and it was all about fighting the best at their best and at an era full of great fighters unlike pac who could have done the same but refuse the test
the Ledwaba win was very good. Velasquez, Solis, Diaz, Julio, those are Pac's stay busy fights for the most part. The Solis win is a little underrated imo, it's a decent win but not a great one. I think Solis will become WBA SFW champ in his next fight.
Barrera, Morales, JMM, & DLH will be the Greater ATGs than any of Whitaker's best opponents. Pac fought against the Greatest ERA of Super/ Featherweights!! Pea went against a So so Era.
theres no way you can explain it, that will make it a great win. It's a pretty good win. Nothing close to great though. Mayweather's win over Oscar is much better.
Bigger name than Chavez? Go away. Whitaker has the better single win. Pac has more top wins. Whitaker has mote depth overall. Pac has better achievements. There is not much between them. What IMO makes the difference are the past prime fights of Whitaker where his greatness shined through, ie the DLH, Hurtado and Trinidad fights. :rofl You do now that Whitaker fought, and in many eys beat a prime DLH while beeing past his prime himself? You know who Chavez and Nelson are? Pac is great but he is no Jimmy McLarnin or Tony Canzoneri. Perhaps comparable to Kid Chocolate.
Whitaker's resumé is vastly under-rated at times. Chavez above his best weight but still unbeaten, prime, probably peak McGirt x2, primed but not peak Nelson, prime and probably peak Vazquez, primed but probably not peak Ramirez x2, prime and probably peak Haugen. A host of other world champions and challengers like Nazario, Rodriguez etc.
i am a pacquiao fan first and foremost, but i prefer whitaker's resume. i scored both the chavez and de la hoya fights for pea, so for me he has the edge here. mcgirt 1 is a horribly underrated win these days, as many people don't seem to remember how good or how highly regarded buddy was at the time. i invite anyone to track down mcgirt vs simon brown, then come back to me on how good sweet pea was against mcgirt twice.
