A majority of attention paid to the heavyweight division goes to the UFC, who now has a reasonably deep roster at that weight class. Besides yourself, Fedor, Werdum, Josh Barnett, and a select few, the heavyweight division appears fairly thin outside of the promotion. What consideration have you given to signing with the US-based promotion (UFC)?

Alistair Overeem: "I have to disagree, because I honestly think that the top 5 in the heavyweight division can hang and even win against the top 5 UFC heavyweight fighters. You can have 100 heavyweight fighters on your roster but then again you need quality fighters. Having Fedor, Werdum, Barnett, Sergei Kharitonov, Antonio Silva and myself in the top 5, we can easily fight against the top 5 UFC, that’s for sure. Then you have more good heavyweight fighters and prospects like; Andrei Arlovski, Brett Rogers, Shane del Rosario and Lavar Johnson. So there are still many interesting fights for me in Strikeforce."

    I agree.

UFC's HW division tends to get hyped a bit more than it should. Take Carwin vs Lesnar for example. Those two were supposed to be the cream of the crop, right? And yet they both put on one of the most amateurish displays of mixed martial arts that I can remember.

Don't get me wrong, I give Brock all the props in the world for his heart and determination, but, at the end of the day, it doesn't change the fact that Lesnar had the striking defense of a 10 year old and that Carwin's cardio was atrocious.

Put it this way: If Brock, Cain, JDS, Carwin, and Mir were in Strikeforce and Fedor, Overeem, Barnett, Kharitonov, and Werdum were in the UFC, ppl would have the opinion that the latter group of fighters were better. The UFC's brand name plays a huge role in how fighters are perceived.

As of right now, I think Strikeforce has the better group of fighters.

In fact, Josh Barnett even said something along the lines of "our fighters have more wins that their guys [the ufc HWs] have fights".

Think this is pretty obvious. Werdum getting dropped for a bad performance against JDS looks stupider and stupider with every dominant win JDS gets. Guy would be a threat to anyone in the UFC.

Its a no brainer. The UFC isnt interested in veteran fighters. But more so guys they can build up and hang a promotion off.

Fedor Overeem and Barnett would crush any UFC heavyweight except Lesna

Lets see if Overeem can actually prove his potential by getting some top wins, and if Barnett can pass a drug test.

Overeem beats any heavyweight in the UFC. Agree?

    Not at all.

He has been impressive, but he doesn't really have a win against a proven top HW.

I agree. I'd give JDS a great chance though. No-one else. Overeem is all wrong for Brock, in pretty much every way. He'd annihilate Lesnar for sure. Carwin would of course carry a very realistic puncher's chance, but I think Overeem has the experience and intelligence to take him into deep waters then put him to sleep. I just think Overeem is all-round better than Velasquez or anyone else in the UFC hw division. So ultimately, I agree. The only hw out there I'd back to beat Overeem would be Fedor.

Carwin would be treated in much the same way as Rogers. Brock's way too inexperienced for a monsta like Uber. Cains too small. JDS would have the best chance out of all of them, but Uber's destroying K1 level strikers so i cant see JDS' striking troubling himn too much

At this stage i dont even know if Fedor could beat him - Fedor's past his best, Ubereem's too big, too good a striker, too complete. Fedor could do it but i'd definitely make Ubereem favourite

Considering the fighters who have stopped Overeem in the past, it is impossible to rule out the chances of JDS or Carwin landing a KO shot on Ubereem. I wouldn't bet on it, but it is obviously highly possible. And Carwin is much physically stronger than Rogers IMO. No chance is Overeem manhandling Carwin... until Carwin is gassed, that is.

Although I think Overeem would outclass Velasquez, I don't agree that size has anything to do with it really. Overeem weighs around 253, Cain around 238. When guys are that size, 15lbs really isn't all that much. When a 260lbs guy faces a 220lbs guy, size is a massive issue, but when you have a 238lbs world-class wrestler facing a 253lbs kickboxer, I don't think the disparity in size/strength is going to be much at all. Overeem would beat Velasquez because he is a much more experienced, rounded, and skilled fighter, I don't think he'd be relying on size to do the job.
