Starting To Think Lennox Lewis Is The Most Complete and Best Heavyweight H2H

I'm starting to think that Bowe would be a more difficult match-up for Ali than Lewis. Very hypothetical, of course.

 

Lewis is a top 3 ATG HW for me and H2H No1. Just my opinion mind.

He had fairly quick hands for a big guy and whilst not fast feet had very good footwork. Prime example of this is the KO of Rahman. Watch the footwork and the speed of delivery of the 1-2 whilst moving... very impressive for a guy so big. Lewis could fight with the best of em in a chess match but when he needed to dig deep the big guy could scrap

Imagine for a Momenet if Ali fought Foreman in 1973......

He is certainly a level above what has come after him.

 

I don't get this "Lewis had great skill". Sure, he was skilled for a 6'5, 250 lbs man, but it's not like he even was an enlarged Ellis in terms of skill.

I think he's a very difficult match-up for just any HW because of how he was able to utilise his size, strength and power. But he had a pretty poor defense from a technical perspective and was therefore always vulnerable to fighters with good straight punches packing good power.

The best fighter he ever defeated was either Vitaly, Tyson or Holyfield in the rematch. Tyson at that point had nothing to offer after the first two rounds and Holy, some 8 years past hhis prime, gave him a good fight. Vitaly of course gave him a very tough fight before the cut (Lewis was past his own prime then, though).

Lewis was very good, but not a super-sized Ezzard Charles.

 

I tend to agree. There are different meanings to the word "skill" though. In a general sense, meaning roughly "ring generalship", or the ability to steer a fight, Lewis displayed ample SKILL.
But in the sense of having superior boxing technique or set of techniques,(whether textbook or unorthodox) and pure boxing skill, I don't think Lewis is close to the likes of Holmes or Louis or Charles or Ali.
And as I mentioned several times already, he fought very few men who were much more than rudimentary in those regards too.
I mean, Mercer, Bruno and a worn-out old Holyfield more or less matched him in exchanges of boxing. Bruno and Mercer won't be remembered as all-time great technicians, and when you consider Holyfield and Mercer were 3-4 inches shorter and lacking the reach of Lewis it's hard to be convinced that Lewis was masterfully skillful.

 

This is where I'm at as well.

 

1 - Prime VS Prime, Mercer KO'S Tyson, usin his cheen, HEART And , infighting, work-rate And stamina adv's. Mercer put up v.close fights with 1995 Holyfeild [who Destroy Tyson a year later] And Prime Lennox who is a ****ing H2H monster And IMO only Prime Foreman Wins VS him..

2 - Bruno v.close to KO'ING Tyson in 1989 with One-Haymaker And gave Prime Tyson a harder/Closer fight for 5 Roundz than he did VS v.young And v.Green Lennox in 1993.

3 - Mr. "worn-out Old Holyfeild" DESTROYED AND tKO'D 25/1 Betting-Fav, 29 year-old Prime Tyson. He Also Knocked-Down Prime Tyson 2 times - BUT he couldnnt even Knock-Down Prime Lennox 1 time! Prooves Lennox had a Much better chin.

That's not really on topic though is it.

I think you overrate Lewis to be honest.

I thought Bruno was given quite a beating against Tyson, even in the first fight. Yes he stunned Tyson but the majority of the fight he was being beaten up and holding on, looking scared shitless.
I thought Bruno did better against Lewis, but folded like a cheap suit when Lewis landed that left hook.

My opinion : Bruno wasn't much good at all.

I dont know about that. But ...

Holyfield was greater than Tyson. He was already past his best when he beat Tyson.

Lewis was greater than Tyson too.

In my opinion, Holyfield was greater than Lewis.

Watch Tyson VS Bruno And see how hurt Tyson was from teh Haymaker - then Watch Lewis VS Bruno And see Lennox take Bruno Haymakers like they were Girl slaps. You make v.good point of Bruno being Scared-shitless VS Tyson. + Bruno tuck LOADS of Tyson Haymakers before he was Hurt - it only tuck 1 Haymaker of Lennox to send him to *****-street.

I donnt agree Holyfield being Greater then Lennox -
Lennox was consistant , Dominant Champ And Beat ever man he faced.
Holyfield has lots of Losses And didnt Beat as-good comp overal.
