Absolute badass but not one to promote it ala Mike Tyson, Sonny Liston and George Foreman. One would find out his competitive nature during the heat of battle. A merciful guy (as he was with Shavers not wanting to hit an already badly cut and bleeding opponent) he was determined and courageous once tested. Holmes was never a dirty fighter and outside the ring was never involved in drugs, adultery and the like but inside of that man lurked an animal that would fight to the death protecting himself and what was his.
When he dropped kick Berbick, he landed on the tail of the car with his back, and got right back up. After seeing that, I was always respectably afraid of Holmes. Thats a machine.
I don't care for the man at all. He's pretty much of a ****, IMO. But I will give him his dues. #5 or 6 Alltime, and a mean, tough sonovabitch.
You forgot: The flying drop-kick off a car roof onto Berbick "Marciano couldn't hold my jockstrap" "if I hurt your feelings back there...so ****ing what"
:rofl:rofl This is an old thread! I don't know which press conference or interview it was. Funny thing is i just typed it into google trying to look for a clip of it and this was the top page
Larry Holmes - Badass in Disguise? is that a **** take..? Larry Holmes was a total badass, inside of the ring and out of it.
