Fact is - Lewis landed the punches that opened Vitali's face. Vitali's face being so ****ing opened is why the fight was stopped. Lewis won the fight.

Rocky Marciano landed the punches that knocked Jersey Joe Walcott out, Walcott being unconscious is why the fight was stopped. Marciano won the fight.

The point is, these days a TKO is officially seen to be as legit as a KO by the doctor and ref. If a fighter is seen as unfit to continue, whether it's because they're not conscious, or because they're just too physically ****ed up. If the other fighter caused that damage, it's a win for them. Lewis caused the the damage, the fight was stopped because of the damage. Win for Lewis. **** everyone who tries to denigrate that win. Lewis won that fight fair and square and if you think otherwise why don't you just jump into a pool of liquid **** and drown, you filthy ***gity ****,

Well said, it doesn't get any plainer than that...for the normal person.

Lewis won. But fair and square? Please tell me which open cuts more effectively, rounded, soft padded gloves, or tape, elbows and forearm?

Lewis was wanred several times. Another ref would've called the cuts the effect of these fouls and in that case Vitali wins the same fight by unanimous technical decision.

Noone's denying that Lewis won 'fair and square'. In another thread I posted:

I’ve not seen anyone on ESB condemning the actually stoppage. It was a horrendous cut, and the ref had no choice but to stop it. But this doesn’t deflect the fact that Klitschko was giving Lewis trouble, and that the cut he suffered forced a premature conclusion to the fight. A rematch was a must. There’s no wrong in labelling that fight as ‘unfinished business’.

I suppose the issue is that Lewis-**** smokers somehow think the win means VK couldn't beat him on any other night even though he was giving him trouble, though I totally agree that he won fair and square (albiet with some rough moves -- see gifs)

I am a big fan of Lewis, but is was a lucky win.

Fact is, if you watch round three in slow motion, you can easily see it was a grazing inside glove that cut Vitali. It could have easily been ruled and accidental foul.

Also, winning on cuts is legit of course, but it doesn't establish the winner as the superior fighter. Cuts look awful, but Briggs sustained much more damage against Vitali than Vital did against Lewis. I am sure Holyfield and Bowe lost a lot more in terms of long term health in their battles than Vitali that night. The worst damage in boxing is often invisible. Walcott was knocked out, he was really unable to continue. Vitali was very game, the fight could have gone on and could have gone either way. Both fighters had their moments, it wasn't as if Vitali was defenseless. Vitali might have sustained a worse skin injury, but his eyesight was fine and ripping skin doesn't damage the eye. He certainly wasn't on his way to intensive care, like Briggs the other night.

I agree but there still should have been a rematch. The first fight was a little inconclusive even though the result was fair.

yep lewis won fair and square, he did the damage and got the stoppage

both guys imo came out of that fight well, lewis was getting on in age but still pulled out the win and vitali showed he could fight and had a great chin, great fight overall imo

 Good old Lennox. He got that gentlemanly image but he was always highly educated in a little dirty fighting. I just watched the Grant fight again recently. ...:rofl

    :deal

thinking about it again.. I wouldn't be surprised if Lewis hit Vitali with the side of the glove intentionally to open that cut.

    <sarcasm>Lewis lost the fight...

    and while we're at it

    Minter Beat Haggler

    Cooper Beat Ali.......Twice<sarcasm>

What I find odd is the Klitschkos wont fight each other for the fear off each others health......But Vladimir sat back and was happy to see his brother fight on with one of the worst cuts in modern boxing. Vitali could have been irrepairably damaged in the next few rounds and if I was in the corner with my brother and his face looked like that I would demand the towel thrown in!!!
