Anyone else think the briggs victory did more harm than good for vitali?

i mean, the way i see it. we have a guy in briggs who has won maybe 2 significant fights this decade, he is clearly well and truly shot, and got knocked out when in his prime, by lennox lewis.

so put all that together, when the fight was made, everyone assumed vitali would knock briggs out.

and in any fantasy matchup, vitali would have knocked briggs out.

in reality, he didnt. yes he dominated the fight, but he couldnt put away, nor drop, a guy that lewis knocked out.

i do have concerns for vitali's power now, the amount of flush shots he landed and briggs still kept coming.

and i don't care what anyone says, if a real result is worse than a fantasy result than surely it does more harm then good.

i.e. wlad v chisora and haye v harrison. in fantasy matchups both win very easily by brutal kayo, anything less than that does more harm than good.

He has even more difficulties on finding opponents in the future. That's the only harm he maid for himself.

    agreed.

And Briggs against Lewis, well Briggs really wasn't knocked out. He fell down from a missed punch he threw, and the ref waved it off.

Now, I'm not saying Lewis wouldn't have won, or wouldn't have eventually KO'd him....who knows. I'm just saying that the way the ref called it off was completely the wrong call.

    You are joking right?

What about the other knockdowns? And the several time's Lewis wobbled Brigg's? The Ref could have called it off well before the third knockdown, and it would have been seen as completely legit. Briggs was getting beaten everywhere, had been knocked down twice previously and was taking flush shots at will. If the ref had let it continue, Briggs would have been knocked out immediately. Not in the next round, not after another exchange, but straight away. Calling it a bad call is disgraceful.

Vitali didn't have Brigg's down, because he does not have the power to knock out Brigg's. Vitali was hitting a Brigg's who could barely lift his arms to throw punches, and could barely defend himself, yet still could not even knock him down. Lewis fought a Briggs who threw punches, moved, and was as fast as he ever was - A prime fighter. Lewis stopped him, after wobbling him and knocking him down several times, in 5 rounds. I have never encountered anyone who thought that fight shuold not have been stopped. I know you love the Klitschko's so very much, but you are just making a fool of yourself.

Old passed it substance abuser with 4 rounds of boxing against oppentents miles below fraudley recent fights. For give me if i do not put the fight down as a once average fighter getting a lucky break wanting to show heart.

For what ever reason Vitial is fighting crap fighters. A fair point would be the lack of decent contenders or people avoiding him. The heavyweight division is just terribly poor, your granny might have decent shot at glory.

Aerola and peter made it to the top by not training and not thinking. I have a funny feeling del boy will prove as a fourteen fight novice with not even european level fights how poor both brothers oppentents have been. Do not think he will beat wladimir he just will not be worse than any of the brothers other oppentents.

Shannon Briggs was a horrendous opponent all along. He's the antithesis of a live, young, challenger.
A terrible mismatch from the day it was signed.

But as has been noted, maybe not Vitali's fault at all. Maybe the HW division has no good fighters available.
    The division is ****.

Knockouts are exciting but just because he doesn't get a knockout that most expect doesn't mean it did more harm than good imo. From what I gather he beat the hell outta him for 12 rounds straight fighting his fight. Nothing wrong with that!

Maybe just maybe the reason Vitali didn't ko or tko Briggs is cause Briggs is heavier in 262 pounds with big big muscles? You people forgot that Briggs hasn't been stopped in over 12 years. And Luf was Briggs even in his prime? Remember before facing Lewis, Briggs got a gift decision win over a 48 years old Foreman. Any true boxing fans should not say this will harm Vitali victory cause he didn't ko Briggs in which Vitali is a year older then Briggs lol.

Luf, Did you read Adamek quotes? He said watching Briggs getting beat up is terrified to watch. <<<If a fighter like Adamek saids that then it shows it didn't do anything harm. For those that say Vitali should easily ko Briggs are not true boxing fans cause they should know even at 38 years old Briggs has a good chin.
