Larry Merchant is just a drunken, blind as a bat, PRIVILEGED commentator who'd be working as a Rent-A-Cop security guard if he was anything other than white. People purchased tickets and tuned their TVs on the fight to see Hopkins and could have given a **** about Larry The Lush.
Well...the fight was a joke. Also keep in mind that this was during that void in Hopkins' career between Trinidad and Oscar where Hopkins turned down every big fight because of money.

That's Bernard's story. Yet, the world of boxing moved on and other people made big fights. I love Bernard, but he was acting like a prime donna. It worked out for him in the end so I'm sure he has no regrets, but it sucked if you were paying attention to his career back then.
