you know over in Eastern europe they dont have the "heart" stigma. Boxing is viewed as a professional sport and you are taught to take good care of your body for a long career. in europe its not called "quitting" its called "retiring".

I remember when this happened and there was a outcry over Vitali's heart, up until this fight Vitali didnt understand the american public/media much like most europeon fighters with the exception of few. You know i dont think Vitali could have ever imagined the backlash he got over retiring on his stool in this fight and after watching the lewis fight its pretty obvious he will never retire like this again.

Chris Byrd and Lennox Lewis, the 2 best fighters he has faced in his carer, two losses.

Vitali quit against Byrd because he had a torn rotator cuff, a very painful injury that required surgery. Many pro athletes have had their careers end after such an injury. I for one am happy he quit that night or he would've won against Byrd, but possibly ended his career.

Kinda looks like he made the right choice in retrospect doesn't it? :deal

He could of just survived for 2 rounds like any champion with heart does, thats what the Klitschkos have none of everytime they've faced adversity in a fight they've crumbled and lost.

Only the truly butthurt will remember him that way. I''l remember Vitaly as the one who RETIRED Lennox Lewis by duck. And I'm way way more of a Lennox Lewis fan than either Klits. :deal

He'll go down as a very boring champion of a very pathetic division. Much of it is out of his control, but so goes life.

I think what he'll be most remembered for is the Lewis fight.

Following the logic of the threadstarter Lennox will be remembered as being knocked out by two journeyman.

    Both statements are plain stooopid

I think Wlad has an enormous heart. Too bad he doesn't have a chin and it becomes a lethal combination.

Thats not the logic of the threadstarter.

Vitali's losses are much more dramatic than any of his wins put together.
They're the only interesting things that mark his career.

The same cant be said for Lennox Lewis.

Vitali's career would have went much differently had he never been retired on injurys leading up to the Rahman fight

had he KO'd Rahman like he was gonna and didnt get plagued by injury he would have been a great and well liked champ

instead American fas have all turned their back on him despite the amazing comeback and doing things most prime fighters cant do in his late 30's

we forget Vitali was well liked by American fans from the Lewis fight to the Williams fight he fought in America and excited the crowds and was well received

funny how fast fans give up on their fighters
