Anyone else think the briggs victory did more harm than good for vitali?

Only if you care about his KO percentage. Otherwise, no.

12 years ago when he was the lineal champ, lewis bounced him round and knocked him out.

like you say, he is now 262 pounds, with no movement just taking punch after punch, yet still didnt go down. infact towards the end of the fight he was just taking vitali's best punches whilst talking to him.

im not saying it harms vitali, but it does more harm then good.

in a fantasy matchup vitali kayoes an old dhot heavy briggs. in reality he doesn't

 

again ray, he took a lot of punishment. that is my point. after shipping all them shots he continued to march forward without dropping once.

at 38 he might have a good chin, but at 26 he had a better chin and lewis smacked him silly.

 

Vitali is in his late 30's, almost 40. He's effectively winning at a stage long after a fighter should be washed up. Let's cut the guy some slack.

 

i agree what vitali is doing at his age is brilliant. im not dissing vitali at all.

the fact still remains that in a fantasy matchup, and even the build up to the fight, the majority expected him to stop briggs, whether it be a mercy stoppage or a retirement. this didnt happen.

i expected him to stop briggs, he didnt do so obviously in my eyes the victory did more harm than good.

had he not fought briggs, people would just assume he'd have wore him down and stop him.

 

valeuv and haye will definately not be anymore anxious to sign yet again....

I think it hurts a little that it lowers his great KO percentage

But vitali had him done in the 9th in the 10th but it was at the bell both times and Briggs was rescued then when he had him the most hurt he took 11 off

I felt if Vitali pulled the trigger a little more he would have gotten him out of there

overall for a 39 yr old Vitali who was retired for 4 yrs and with several injurys im impressed high work rate thru out thoroughly dominant its very impressive

 

28secs onwards for those who say Lewis had a shaky chin.

 

Klitschkos win fights and get insults for it. Hate to imagine what would happen if they lose.

 

Realistically, Vitali has had several fights where the opponent could have lasted longer. Arreola could potentially have stuck it out for 12 rounds. Peter may have lasted the full 12 (Although that is debatable) Briggs did but shouldn't have.

I guess when you look at things on paper, then they seem different.

Knockouts are not the only way for a win to be impressive. One sided beatdowns with scores of 120-107 or 120-105 are also very impressive. And considering how much damage poor Briggs actually took - the bones in his skull were fractured and he had to go straight to hospital...
The lopsided nature of Vitali's victory and the damage he did make it an impressive win. The only question is about the quality of his opposition.

On paper people may think this did harm to Vitalis reputation. I don't think that anyone watching it thought so though. He looked very dangerous, and if anyone watched it (without being a hater) then they would have thought that Vitali is still on the top of his game.

 

Luf, when was Briggs even in his prime? Cause before facing Lewis, a young Briggs was clearly outboxed by a 48 years old foreman. Dude a freaking 48 years old Foreman for crying out loud.

 

Exactly. If the ref and Briggs corner had any good heart, Vitali would won by tko and after that nobody will be posting threads like this (no offense Luf). But even though it went to the scorecard, it didn't help Briggs any favors cause he got a very bust up face and was rush to the hospital. Nobody besides Lewis has ever beat up Briggs the way Vitali did.
