If he's in NY or any major cities in the US, he should not be missing much. Ang aming Maynila ay hindi lubhang naiiba sa mga progresibong siyudad ng Estados Unidos!

I guess from someone of Filipino heritage who was born or grew up in the west, this is true. Thats because you have a point of comparison and Im not going to pretend that the Philippines is better as far as a country goes, we are not. But as a Filipino I love the people man, some of the best in the world. But they are trapped in this systematic corruption on all levels from politics to economic to education which is out of reach for most people which results in precisely what you said, having babies when they shouldnt. Dont I wish we were like a Hawaii or something?, Hell yes coz Id live there in a heartbeat. Anyways Pinoy>nog2

Simply because there is better paying work abroad.

My mother is abroad, and working there.

She does not really wanna leave, but work just pays much better abroad.

For the same effort you exert here, you get paid much, much better in other countries.

People don't leave because the place is a shithole. They love the country.

They try their luck outside of the Philippines because they wanna help teir loved ones better.

I go to the touristy places, but I also go to the inner bowels of Manila.

Divisoria, Recto, Quiapo, Escolta, Tondo, Sampaloc, DelPan, pier north/south, etc.

It needs a lot of help, but it is not hopeless.

I ****ing love the potential of Manila if they gave her a proper makeover and healed all her wounds and dressed her all up nicely again.

    I get excited, imagining it.

Manila is ****ing beautiful, man, if you look past the dirt, grime, and the scars on her face.

    She can be saved.

Do you really need to ask me that?

You said earlier that you use the word negro to describe a black man?

    Consider this :

A black man ask you "hey who are you looking for?"
You replied "Im looking for a negro man"

Honestly we are just going around in the circle here.

Where I am now in the UK, I doubt you get a friendly reply with that. You may pass because you are not a white man but Im telling you could be asking for trouble. Just because its probably ok to say it in the phil it doesnt mean its ok to say it when you land in another country where the blacks/foreigners are targeted by the racist.

As a brown person living in a white people land, Im just another guy who they can throw racist remarks at.

The thing that bothers me the most in Manila are the rivers and the Bay. How can you clean that thing? I mean dont get me wrong, I love the ruggedness and the little karinderyas But I mean Im here in Toronto and you can literally stop anywhere theres a creek and either take a dip or go fishing.

Maybe it's because I almost never talk in English in real life (tagalog, all day. Why talk in english in Tagalog land?) and saying "negro" in Tagalog is normal and non offensive at all.

Talking to fellow Filipinos, I say it all the time.

    It's normal.

But yes, if I talk in english, I will say "black man" to describe a black person.

It's just weird to simply revert to Tagalog, when talking in straight english, just for that single word.

It actually is getting better, honestly.

I rode the Pasig river ferry service a couple weeks ago, and the river is getting a bit of its color back, and there it's not a s dirty as it was before.

They have the SAVE THE PASIG RIVER project for more than 10 years now and you can see the incremental improvements.

It's getting better. I'm not lying.
