I never really talk in english, so when people say it's racist when I say "negro" of course I will defend myself.

I was talking to my aunt (Filipina) in the US, in Tagalog "Tita, nakita mo ba yung negro na yun dun?"

She said "Uy, wag mo sabihin yan, dito, dapat sabihin mo, ITIM"

I was like :huh

I'm not talking to someone else. I'm talking to a fellow Filipino.

If I talk in english, I'll probably say "black" because it'll be cumbersome to change to tagalog just for that particular word.

But as for the word itself, I know black people in the Philippines will not get offended if they are referred to as "negro".

She is right, the word "itim" is kinder to use than negro. Same meaning yeah. Reason for that is you will get used to using the word negro, it just matter of time some crazy black person might over heard. They can be pretty sensitive to that word, that is all.

When I was in school here, teachers were encouraging kids to use coloured man rather than black man.

We have to be balanced Bula, admit we got problems. Just like Manny says, he wished we could run our **** like Singapore. Too often, we turn the blind eye and think everythings good.
