No it wasn't. He highlighted some key weaknesses about Vitali. It's easy to say "yeah, but he won those fights" but he wasn't fighting people as good as Haye either. To simply ignore them because he won is very ignorant.
Comparing Haye and Hide is ludicrous. Hide was always a poor heavyweight and not a relevant cruiser either. He lacks the mentality of a champion, which is why he never managed to live up to the hype. Haye is the best cruiserweight since Holyfield and a two weight world champion. Like him or not, he's an excellent fighter, far better than Hide ever was.
1. They're pawing with their jabs in the first two rounds. Throws tonnes of right hands? Vitali has very good timing. 2. When is his mouth not hanging open? Vitali is probably the only HW today who can go 15 rounds at a high pace. His punch stats are ridiculous. He threw over 1000 punches against K Johnson and he was 38 years old - it is the most thrown by a HW of all time. If your standards are so high that Vitali doesn't make the grade, how would you rate the "stamina" of a David Haye or a Frank Bruno? 0? 3. Most HWs his size are lumbering and static and resort to a high guard to block punches. Vitali doesn't like to stand in the punching zone of his opponent and is a master of controlling the distance at all times. When other HWs get countered coming in by a big punch like that they go down or their legs turn to jelly. Vitali obviously felt that punch but he seemed pretty clear headed to me and his movement was good. Any other HW, Lewis included, would be pinned on the ropes with his hands up soaking up punishment. 4. Vitali has veryy good speed for a boxer his size. Actually it's very hard to see them as they come from all angles. Unfortunately for his opponents they never receive the telegram or the postcard.
And Herbie Hide was a 2-time HW world champion. It sounds pretty impressive doesn't it? Best cruiserweight since Holyfield? He has two world title fights at CW and probably the worst title winning performance at HW of all time. Haye is a Hide wannabe.
Not really. Nobody took the WBO seriously then, so to consider him a former world champion is a huge long shot. He has the best cruiserweight resume since Holyfield and is the best fighter since him, so, yeah, he's the best cruiserweight since Holyfield.
one team is ready to sign the other is using money as an excuse when he only has one title.... you do the math
Best resume? Old Mormeck? He was a cruiserweight champion for 4 months!!! I repeat 4 months!!! And his resume reflects that. I don't see a Jirov, Bell, Braithwaite, Wlodarczyk, Cunningham, Adamek etc. Just old Mormeck. Adamek for example has a better resume with wins over Bell and Cunningham. Best CW since Holyfield? The aforementioned Juan Carlos Gomez was better than him. Jirov. There were many on the same level as him. Not that it was a strong division - quite the opposite.
I think people are a lot more forgiving of thrash talking fighters that actually back up their words. David Haye talked the most thrash and has done the least backing up. He has done the complete opposite to everything he said he was about. They are simply worlds apart.
Vitali oozes class. If you respect him, he respects you back. Remember he is a human after all and will sometimes lose his temper like we all do. But I think he has done a lot more things that suggest class than the opposite.
Except Haye isn't remotely funny, it's pathetic. Yes, was Vitali said was classless, but it's no more so than what Haye. Besides, it's boxing, people die - what Vitali said, strictly speaking, isn't even untrue.
