Carl how sure are you of this? If I had of got a bit more notice I would have went over to see Lindsay fighting at the York Hall. And as far as I know the Groves show is sold out.

Lee's team stated after either the Belgecham or Thiam fight (I can't remember which) that Lee and Macklin were going in different directions, just because Lee turned down Peters offer, which if I'm not mistaken was a two fight deal to fight Duddy with the winner fighting Macklin, does not equate to him ducking the fight! He is trying to build his profile in the US and by the sounds of things his team are working towards something big for him. Lee has been messed around by the EBU before when they saw fit to give Belgecham a title shot instead of him so I can understand his reluctance to go down that road again and who's to say Macklin will still be European champ by the time that potential fight came around anyway, judging by his last performance I wouldn't say anyone should be ducking Macklin at this moment in time.

Just watched the Shannon Briggs v Vitali Kilischko fight on youtube. Good God Almighty but the was the worst beating I have ever seen inflicted on a human being. How in the name of God Shannon Briggs stayed standing for 12 rounds I have no idea. In the last few rounds I was getting distracted by the unusual bulge his left arm bicep was making and guess this must be the injured arm. It looked to be giving him trouble from about round five onwards. From round seven the left side of Briggs face looked to be broken and he continued to take endless overhand rights for Vitali. If you watch the fight look carefully at around 1.04 minutes left in round 11, I could not believe to see Briggs catch Vitali with a beauty to the chin. I really hope Briggs will be alright as I have just watched him do something that seems physically impossible.

Nevin signs for Paris in World Series of Boxing

    Thursday, 21 October 2010 10:21
Irish bantamweight John Joe Nevin has signed up with Paris in the revolutionary World Series of Boxing.
The 21-year-old Irish champion, who boxes out of the Cavan boxing club, inked a three-year contract at the National Stadium in Dublin on Wednesday and will leave for Paris on 1 November.
It is believed Nevin will earn €153,000 over the duration of his three-year contract.

Nevin, the youngest member of the Irish Olympic boxing team that won Ireland's only medals at the Beijing Games in 2008, will line out for the French side, who have adopted the name Paris United, against Milan - nicknamed Milano Thunder - in their first match next month.

Istanbul, nicknamed Istanbulls, and Moscow, who have adopted the name Kremlin Bears, make up the four-team European group.

Eight other sides in the Asian and Americas groups - which includes Ken Egan's Miami team - will battle it out home and away over 12 matches in the inaugural 2010/11 season stretching from November to March.

The top sides and the best runner-up in the three groups will qualify for the WSB play-offs with two winners advancing from the play-offs to the finals in Macau, China, next March.

The top ranked boxers in the WSB Team Championships will qualify for the WSB Individual Championships, which will also act as a qualifier for the 2012 Olympics in London.

Boxers taking part in the WSB, which is fully endorsed by world amateur boxing chiefs AIBA will be paid a salary, crucially, however, WSB boxers will not lose their Olympics status.

'I'm delighted to have signed with Paris,' said the 2008 European Union champion Nevin.

'Paris is just a two-hour flight from Ireland and I know one of the coaches and Alexis Vastine so I won't be a stranger out there.

'The Individual World Series of Boxing is a great incentive as it offers an extra opportunity for boxers to qualify for the London Olympics which is a major goal of mine over the next two years.

'I've had a look at my opponents in the World Series of Boxing on the European teams and I'm ranked higher than them so I believe I can do well. I'm going to have some tough challenges ahead, but that's what it's all about at this level.'

In esssence they will be 5 round pro fights (no headgaurd no vest 10 point must system of scoring)but with the boxers boxing for teams,These boxers not only will be eligible for the next Olympics but will be given extra chances to qualify for London(not sure how that works)The boxers will be paid by the team they represent. Each team will box each other twice in the year. There are 4 teams in the europe group 4 in the american group, Egan will be involved here and 4 in asia. The top teams will then box in a world final type box off.

It's good because we will get a chance to see how suited they are to the professional game.

It was a complete and utter duck. Lee has said in many interviews that he is looking for big fights. He was offered a fight with Duddy and then (should he win) Macklin. Add a career high pay day to boot, it couldn't be more ideal. The "build his name up in America" excuse doesn't cut it. It's not as if he's even close to a shot at Martinez. This has been confirmed by Martinez and his manager. He'd definitely be on Martinez's radar if he beat Duddy and then Macklin. Do you really think Macklin is going to lose his next fight? He's fighting a cab driver.
