I keep hearing that every champion has his dirty tactic, that it is normal and natural, no big deal and that it doesn't influence one's legacy even if it changes the outcomes of important fights. So Ali pulling heads down and leaning on his opponents neck with his whole weight is alright. So is Holyfield headbutting Tyson, so is Lewis rabbit-uppercutting the **** out of Grant. Bacause it's normal, because champions employ dirty tricks from the beginning of the sport and I should stop complaining. Well, in my opinion rules should be enforced brutally. I would even go as far as using replays and disqualify after the match but that's another story.. If every champion has his trick in a sleeve show me what is Frazier's. And I challenge you to show me what is Vitali's. And to find more examples of really clean fighting champions. To me fighting dirty should mean deducting points in ATG ratings because it really does affect outcomes (for instance don't believe Ali would do that well without his tricks). Should it?
Winning is all that counts. Not many will remember the tactics that were used to win - but you will remember the wins.
Froch rabbit punches, Abraham has the best right elbow in the business, Pavlik uses his shoulders a lot and has a mean left elbow, but these are examples of guys who do not do these things to excess. Guys like Bika and Ward take fouling to a whole new level. In my opinion there is a point where intelligent rough housing becomes dirty fighting. When fighters cross that line, it's a serious problem, and should be dealt with harshly.
Depends on the foul and frequency. But hey, we call guys like Greb, Saddler, etc ATGs so who gives a ****? :deal
It depends. There's things like holding which, although should be punished, don't change the outcome of a fight. Then there are the guys who headbutt, which, in cases like Torres/Holt or Mosley/Forrest, can change a fight. If it does, then of course the win doesn't mean as much to a guys legacy.
I think it should matter and it should be stopped. What we've seen now, and throughout history is that some boxers get away with murder, just because they are populair. I saw a fight recently where one guy got warned for rabbitpunching, but the ref counted the KD caused by it! atsch And of course it does matter what the foul is. Headbutting, elbowing, holding head down and hitting should be punished much more than holding, leaning. But referees should punish holding more often and harder also, AND THE RIGHT GUY!
What is 'a win'? Just the official outcome? To me it's stupid to think that way - that everything what counts is what will go down in official records. Are we judging fighters seriously or just looking in the books? Yeah but sometimes they just don't sort them out and it's up to fans to call it as it is IMO.
Some do give a **** especially when we have champs like Frazier who is as manly and fair in the way he fights as it gets. Or Vitali for that matter. No complaining, no cheating, no bull****, just the job. Beautiful. :deal Why do we have to deal with frauds just because they manage to escape the eyes of the ref (or the ref just close them intentionally) when we can use video replays?
Depends. I can accept a fighter using rough house tactics to some degree, but when it a blatant foul and changes the entire momentum of the fight.
look ....if it were as dirty as you make it out to be...there would be guys getting DQ'd all the time...if the refs dont even take points....then its part of the game unless its a blatant kick in the balls or a bite on the ear....part of the game....its boxing...but its referred to as " hey, you see that FIGHT last night??" "you gonna watch the FIGHT friday?"
I mean strictly speaking, you can only bend the rules to what the ref will allow, and if your! getting away with it, why wouldn't the other guy be able to? I dont like it, like I hated the way Hatton fought against Zoo, thought Hatton was playing a different sport at times, reason I bring it up, is because Zoo is a guy that gets disorganized when you rush at him like that, but from range, I firmly believe, had the ref officiated the fight properly, and Zoo would of got some separation, that he would of found a home for that right hand and taken Hatton out.
