I've seen the official score card, and I've watched the fight, Lewis easily won that round.

The official score was that Vitali was ahead by all three judges 4-2, I had the same score, but this also included the first round, which was essentially a feeling out round. Take that away and it's an even fight, on the scorecard, but not when you look at the damage both fighters took.

Cooper Ali 1 should be a draw by that logic. Cooper at least had Ali down in the 4th, i guess his cuts didnt warrant a stoppage loss either

    this got thread got ugly....

my take good stop that was a bad cut

4-2 Vitali maybe 3-3 Lennox was behind or tied but def not ahead

Watching some of the footage again Lewis doesnt appear as fat as a lot of ppl who make excuses for him say he was

I always questioned the cut but it was obviously a punch after better review

great fight just another good Vitali fight like Sanders and Areola

Vitali wasnt as hurt as I think some say he was in 6 he took the uppercut pretty well and won the next exchange

he landed throughout the round but toward the end Lennox stole it

Vitali held a lot but I think it was more strategic and kind of like bully pressure tactics then fatigue

It always makes me laugh when I read people saying things like "Lewis damaged/busted up Vitali so bad with his punches, ect...." Guys... he threw a right hand that missed it's mark... and it grazed Vitali's eye causing that nasty cut to open up. That is the cut that the fight was stopped on. That grazing punch doesn't make Lewis the better fighter. Vitali was clearly winning that fight even after the cut. A few Lewis uppercuts didn't change that either. Yes, Vitali got a cut on his cheek and in his mouth too... but the fight was stopped due to the cut above his eye. Yeah, Vitali's face was a mess... but he was still winning the fight. Plenty of fighters win fights with bad cuts on their face.

In most people's eyes... which is why this is such a hot topic to this day... Vitali proved to be the better man in the ring that night (as the crowd showed that night as they cheered Vitali after the fight and booed Lewis out of the arena... this was after they cheered Lewis in and booed as Vitali entered).... which was further proven by Lewis running into retirement just days after the WBC forced him to fight Vitali again. This was after sitting on the title for another 8 months after the fight, making Vitali jump through hoops for a rematch.. turning him down... and trying sue Mike Tyson back into the ring, or fight someone like Roy Jones Jr.

A grazing punch might win you a fight on a cut... but it doesn't make you a better fighter. Vitali proved to be a better fighter that night when they were actually fighting... the doctor decided to stop the fight on a horrible cut. Just because the doctor chose to stop the fight, doesn't make Lewis better either... it was simply the doctor's decision. Now... if Lewis was winning the fight, then this wouldn't have ever been an issue. Most people felt like he "escaped" that fight with his title. It's sad that the boxing fans never got to see a rematch. It's a lot easier to claim that you beat "every man you ever faced" when the men that have wins over you are willing to get back into the ring with you. Lewis was never willing to do that.

How am I a Lewis fan. I wasn't even interested in boxing when he was active. :huh

Well it would have been an almost insurmountable lead if he were 6-0 down wouldn't it? But he wasn't....... so it wasn't insurmountable! Do your math!

And tell me why those cuts wouldn't happen again? I'm interested to here how it wouldn't be likely. :huh

Klit won the first half of that fight. No one is disputing that. Klit also proved to be the better man over the first half of the fight that night. Lewis won the fight. period. And yes he hurt VK more than you are giving credit for.

    You aren't a little biased are you?

It's just the truth. I don't know what you mean by "hurt". Vitali never showed to be "hurt" in that fight. Cuts might hurt I guess... if that's what you mean.

the problem with people regarding this fight is they're going by the points alone in why vitali would of won, and not judging by what was actually happening. the fight still had six rounds to go and vitali was holding on for dear life when the fight eventually got stopped. that's what matters. lewis was finishing that fight stronger than vitali. vitali did better earlier on, while lewis was landing the harder blows later on.

i didn't say lewis finished the fight, i said he was the fighter who looked more like getting the stoppage when the fight got stopped. for instance if you had put on the tv at the time without watching the other rounds, you would of picked lewis to win the fight, that's because vitali was hanging on for dear life when lewis landed those uppercuts. if vitali didn't hold on to lewis he would of went down, that's how much he was reaching out to hold lewis, that's how hurt and tired he was.

round five was the round vitali couldn't even stand up right, regardless of if he was winning, he was the fighter who was hurt. in boxing in those situation points don't mean **** all because the chances are that fight would of never of went the whole twelve rounds anyway even without the cut.
