This is from a member of Team Margarito who posts on another forum :

The guy is credible, so I figured I'd post this here since there had been rumblings about a rehydration clause and people uncertain of which size gloves would be used this November.

Unfortunately, the only person some posters will believe in regards to this mythical Hyrdation clause is Floyd, if he said something about it.

    "Arum is a liar..."
"Margo will say anything for a pay day..."

I am interested in the 8 oz gloves concession. It seems this would favor the ability of pac: speed and power are both a little bit more pronounced in those eight ounce gloves. However, I wouldn't want Margarito catching a little man in the chin and body too frequently with 8 oz gloves either, and bigger gloves would make a slower guy slightly easier to block/ avoid. I guess it works either way. (ie - If I were Floyd fighting either guy I would ask for 10 oz gloves - favoring sharpness and blunting the chance of a lucky KO a fraction, and allowing his defenses to be that much more confident with both larger surface area on the glove for blocking and slower/more unwieldy penetration. I really think at the elite level 2 oz can make a difference in landing the punch.)

I hope the story of this fight is speed. I am a bit concerned about the huge height differential. Pac has had the right stuff to comprehensively beat up bigger men, but I really think eventually this whole exercise in jumping weight classes is going to catch up with him if something clean lands.

The weight of the glove is dictated by the sanctioning body, not the State. Most sanctioning bodies require 10oz gloves for Light Middleweight and up.

They are fighting for WBO Light Middleweight title. See rule/link below. I call bull**** on this thread and supposedly "credible guy."

    END THREAD

    30) WEIGHT OF THE GLOVES
The weight of the gloves to be used in World Championship contests shall be as follows:
From Mini Flyweight to Welterweight, eight ounce gloves shall be used.
From Jr. Middleweight to Heavyweight, ten (10) ounce gloves shall be used.
The weight of gloves to be used is determined by the weight classification at the official weight-in, not the weight of the fighters at the time of the contest.

You sure about that? I clearly recall Bob Arum meeting with the Nevada State Athletic Commision prior to Cotto-Margarito to discuss their glove policy, which soon led to the NSAC amending their glove-size rules. If what you say is true, then why would Bob go to the NSAC and not the WBA?

And I'm calling bull**** on you and your sources. Pacquaio-Margarito is for the vacant WBC title at 154.

Does that look like a WBO belt to you?

Not sure where the rehydration clause rumors came from but glad to hear they won't be doing that... The 8 oz gloves is kinda a given because that's the only size Pacman wants to wear.

Maybe WBA and NSAC collaborate with each other on this issue. This fight is for WBO, who has their own policy, plus they are not fighting under NSAC jurisdiction. I added more to my original post if you want more information. WBA and IBO defintely follow this rule that LMW and up use 10oz, especially with all the recent injuries.

Also, Cotto and Margarito fought at WW, where they are already allowed to use 8 oz gloves. I believe it is now optional to use 10oz at WW if both fighters agree. Not the other way around though (8oz instead of 10oz for LMW and above), too dangerous.

Thanks for posting the link with your information! I think Arum has the "ability" to make it 8oz gloves if that's what they want though. Guess we will see in the upcoming weeks!

Doubt it on this one. This is enforced because of the injuries/deaths lately. It would be too risky to change this rule, and if something goes bad, the

Wrong. The fight is for the WBC. Isn't Sergiy Dzinziruk the WBO champ?

Wrong again. At the time they fought, Nevada had a rule that stated fighters 135 and up had to wear 10 ounce gloves. Don't you remember Hatton-Urango and how ridiculous those gloves looked on junior welters?

    http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=3365846

His information is completely invalid because this is not a WBO title fight.

WBC requires ten ounce gloves for Jr Middleweight and above as well, this also became an issue when DLH fought Vargas to unify, Vargas was pissed that he could not wear 8 ounce gloves while the rules state 10.
However if both fighters do agree to the smaller gloves then there is no issue.... I call your bull****....~~:think

    Oh..

  15. That's the VACANT WBC belt, not the WBO.

BUT, the WBC rules also state exactly this:
The gloves for the fight will be of 8 ounces from strawweight up to the welterweight
    This content is protected
. The gloves will be provided by the promoter unless stated in the contract.
