Point 1: Yes - its WBC. They are even stricter on this than WBO and IBO. See their rule below.

    6. The gloves for the fight will be of 8 ounces from strawweight up to the welterweight and of 10 ounces from superwelter to heavyweight. The gloves will be provided by the promoter unless stated in the contract.

Point 2: Not wrong. I said WW is now 8oz and optional for 10oz. This is the current rule.

Yeah, but it doesn't just end there. The fighters still have commission policies to adhere to. For example, both Hatton-Castillo and Mayweather-Hatton were at welterweight for the WBC title, yet both of those fights were fought with 10 ounce gloves, due to the NSAC's glove policy.

Yeah, but you said Cotto and Margarito fought at welter where they were already allowed to use 8 ounce gloves. But that wasn't the case (in Nevada) when the fight was being put together. The glove rule was amended because of that particular fight after Arum lobbied to get it changed. Which suggests, the athletic commissions have just as much say so when it comes to gloves as the sanctioning bodies. Otherwise, Arum fighting to get the rule amended would have been pointless.

Exactly the issue is not with wearing bigger gloves, its when they want smaller gloves. Smaller gloves are more dangerous - especially when fighting above WW.

Hey this thread actually has useful information! Can we hide it before the other posters find it?!

Seeing as the fight is sanctioned below 154 I don't see why the gloves would be the ones used in the 154 lb division.

Well, the WBC nor the NSAC had a problem with allowing De La Hoya and Vargas to fight at 154 with 8 ounce gloves. I think the issue is more so with who's who and what exactly they're asking for.

Because it's still over the 147 pound limit, which means it's a junior middleweight bout.
