I remember as a kid seeing the movie

, which is said to have been at least loosely based an Carnera's career. Sad film, and if it any way resembles true, you have to feel sorry for the big guy.

Apparently there's also a movie called
    This content is protected
which IS the story of Carnera's life - never seen it though.

Naseem Hamed v Cesar Soto - Joe Louis Arena, Detroit, Michigan, USA.

'Prince' Hamed adds the WBC featherweight title to his WBO title with a decisive PTS win over 12 rounds.

Hamed went towards justifying his claim of being the world’s best featherweight, despite it being a pretty ugly fight.

Hamed was certainly exciting to watch, but his over-the-top showboating annoyed many, including myself.

Must say I enjoyed seeing Barrera show Hamed that fighting a quality opponent with your hands in your pockets isn't the smartest idea in the world.

    ...Barrera delivering some home truths.

Funny, you don't seem that smart from the post above Ippy - but shock, fricken horror, see below:

Ipswich named as a smart world community

    AAP - Oct 22nd 2010

The city of Ipswich, just west of Brisbane, has been named one of the world's smartest communities.

Ipswich is among the finalists for the Intelligent Communities Smart 21 Award by the international Intelligent Community Forum (ICF), a think tank that studies economic and social development in the 21st century.
It is the only Australian city included in 21 communities nominated as smart

"ICF seeks to share the best practices of the world's Intelligent Communities in adapting to the demands of the broadband economy, in order to help communities everywhere find sustainable renewal and growth," the ICF website explains.

"The Smart 21 are communities or regions with a documented strategy for creating local prosperity and inclusion using broadband and information technology to attract leading-edge businesses, stimulate job creation, build skills, generate economic growth, and improve the delivery of government services."

In January the 21 communities will be whittled down to seven and one will be named Intelligent Community of the Year at a broadband summit in New York City in June 2011.

Ipswich's nomination includes recognition that the city's leaders have taken concerted action to create a modern ICT-centric community.

Mayor Paul Pisasale said the nomination recognised the hard work council has invested in creating a technology renaissance.

"Not too long ago Ipswich was in decline," he said.

"We had high unemployment and our young people couldn't wait to leave the city.

"In 1995 Ipswich took a huge step towards the future, creating Global Information Links (GIL) and becoming the first local authority to provide internet access.

"Now we have two university campuses, an unemployment rate below the state average, thriving development and an award-winning master-planned community with a data centre and fibre network at its heart," Mr
    Pisasale said.

Suwon City in South Korea is the Intelligent Community of the Year for 2010.

    Mike Tyson
v Orlin Norris - MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

The official result a no contest at the end of round one - NC1.

Tyson flattens Norris with a blow well after the first round ends, and referee Richard Steele is faced with this:

Orlin Norris also injured his knee on the way down meaning an NC was about all that could be made out of the mess.

Hamed should have stayed with Brendan instead of having his brothers train him at the villa in Vegas for the MAB fight , ****ing hated this ***** from the moment i set my eyes on him especially at the weigh in to the Robinson fight , little ***** fled like a "Mundine" when he realised the **** his and Warrens twatty mouths had got themselves into . I was delighted when MAB beat him but if i'm being honest here MAB would have gone the way of his other opponents if the REAL Naz Hamed would have shown up to fight . hating the **** is one thing but truth is another.

Wilfredo Gomez v Carlos Zarate - Roberto Clemente Coliseum, Hato Rey, Puerto Rico.

Gomez retains the WBC super bantamweight title winning by TKO in round 5 of 15.

Both fighters weighed in over the 124lb limit on their first attempt. It took Zarate four trips to the scales to make 122lb.

    ...Wilfredo Gomez.

Gomez knocked down Zarate twice in the 4th round, the second knockdown occurring after the bell. The referee stopped the fight when Zarate was knocked down in the 5th round, and his corner threw in the towel.

    ...Gomez drops Zarate.

Gomez remains undefeated, improving his record to 22 wins and a draw.

The step-up in weight brings about bantamweight legend Zarate's (still the reighning WBC bantamweight champion), first loss in his 54th bout. Zarate's record moved to 53 wins (52 by KO) and the loss to Gomez.

    Pro debut of The Greatest.

Cassius Clay v Tunney Hunsaker - Freedom Hall State Fairground, Louisville, Kentucky, USA.

Clay wins on PTS over 6 rounds.

    This content is protected

Clay, the 1960 Rome Olympic light heavyweight gold medalist, and later to be better known as Muhammad Ali, wins his pro debut.

Ali famously threw his gold medal into the Ohio River after being refused entry into a 'whites only' restaurant. He was issued with a replacement for it at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

Hunsaker was a journeyman who made many visits to the canvas. A couple of years after his bout with Clay (Ali) he unfortunately suffered a brain hemorrhage and remained in a coma for nine days following surgery.

Hunsaker did recover though, and in the late 70's became Police Chief of Fayetteville, in West Virginia.

Judging by the picture above, Hunsaker should have auditioned for the Blues Brothers. May well have beaten Dan Akroyd for the part of Elwood.

Tunney Hunsaker passed away in 2005.

Charkey Ramon v Pat Dwyer – Festival Hall, Melbourne.

Ramon wins the vacant Commonwealth light middleweight title by TKO in round 8 of 15.

    This content is protected

Ramon would retire prior to his 24th birthday, with a career record of 33 wins (21 by KO), 1 loss and 1 draw.

But for injury, Ramon may well be remembered as one of our world champions - and in an era when world titles weren't a dime a dozen like they are today.
